Have you not had a chance in the umpteen million other threads on the 380 to voice you're opinion on that?? Was it really necessary?

Awesome video though!

I agree, this is supposed to be an aviation forum for enthusiasts and not one to constantly derate the products of our affection. Sure, people are entitled to their opinions but come on, enough is enough.

Couldn't agree more! pointing out that you think the plane is "ugly" is just a waste of a post.

As far as the video, it was absolutely amazing to watch it. Was that a 737 around the middle of the video?

Airbus should've brought the A380 to DFW today. Winds were almost at 90 degrees to the runway and gusting to 40mph.

Anyway, i have a question about crosswind tests:
When such a test is performed, are the take-offs and landings performed with different weights?

Don't get your hopes up. Plenty of A340 bashing going on, just pick a thread at random to find it. Having the A380 certified won't stop it.

Oh, and awesome video, I can't imagine what it would be like to take off and land in wind like that. Any reason why he was landing one direction and taking off the opposite way? Would it have mattered I guess? Just figured both would be in the same direction...

Simple matter of fact is that you and your American cronies seem to hijack every single thread discussing the A380 and the discussion about the subject at hand.....The crosswind landings in Iceland..... Is therefore intermingled with pointless and needless discussions on the same exact subject that countless other threads have already covered, your negative comments about it's looks.

It is impossible to read through a thread on the A380 without coming across this childish bashing and as others have already said, it is extremely tiresome, especially for those of us who have an interest on factual and informative details on the aircraft itself.

If you wish to start a new thread on the subject of the A380's cosmetics, you are at free will to do so, and it also gives the reader the option of deciding to enter the thread or not.

Interesting in the part of the 380 taking off, it looked like the #1 engine was close to dragging, but I know given the size of the airplane it was at least 15 feet from the ground.

On the take off, the right wing lifted from the ground and the a/c started to bank left before leaving the ground. The left outboard engine came pretty close to the ground.
It looked like the full aileron correction was already applied. (wind came from the right)

The article on Flight Global mentions it too, and you can clearly see it on a picture there.

Would that cause trouble for certification, by, for instance, decreasing the max X-wind component? Or does it happen regularly on heavies xwind certification tests?

Not sure, but with the 380 having such a large [edit]profile[/edit] I'm sure she gets bash around a bit more. I'm also curious what the inflight roll is like in heavy turbulence.

Nice video....but boy that aircraft is an ugly duckling !!!

Um. Didn't the ugly duckling turn out to be a misplaced Swan that turned out to be more beautiful than the ducks that persecuted him?  Smile

I'd love to fly on that swan someday. (ok, I know, it sounds weird.)

Any reason why he was landing one direction and taking off the opposite way? Would it have mattered I guess? Just figured both would be in the same direction...

Hi all,

He was doing that to save time, taxi back would have wasted daylight and flight time.

That was an awesome video, I love test videos and anything that shows an airplane showing off its performance! You know the flight crew was enjoying themselves (profesionally  Cool )! Having done crosswind landings in only small planes I wonder what that looked like from the cockpit. The crab angle looks like nearly 45 degrees, does that put the cockpit over the left edge of the runway?!?! Old school stick and rudder!!!

The 380 is distinctive and beautiful. I'm just bummed I won't see one locally...

Well, if you're tired of it, then leave.. none of us are gonna be upset about it.

THANK YOU!! I cannot stand people who get offended because the thread gets slightly off topic! we are still talking about planes people!
