LHR Transfer And Bagage

Thu Nov 16, 2006 1:29 pm

Hello

I live in Sweden but I will fly to HKG in January.

If I buy my LHR-HKG ticket on expedia with Air New Zeeland and my ticket with British Airways CPH-LHR on expedia separatly... will they be able to check my luggage in CPH direct to HKG so I don't need to recheck it in LHR?
I ask because BA and NZ are in two differente alliances. Will BA in CPH be able to do that ?

And can expedia post my tickets to sweden?

Thanks in advance

Best regards
I am willing to pay extra for a A346 flight !

I have NO specific expertise in this but I believe they will. So long as you can provide the connecting flight number at check-in the tag can be created for automatic transfer at LHR to your subsequent flight on NZ.

Afaik, although they are in different alliances, the interline agreements are still in place. You may not be able to get your onward boarding passes in CPH, however.

And don't know if Expedia will mail your tickets to Sweden...

Expedia.com or Expedia.co.uk or Expedia.de? Can't they email you an e-ticket?

Why do you need to buy separate tickets?

You don't need to recheck your bags in LHR. You have to go through security, probably change terminals, go to the Air New Zealand counter and check in for the second segment of the flight.

LHR has no problems with luggage even when flying with different airlines.
At CDG that's a different story. Bags are late even when connecting between two Air France flights.

I would be very careful. If you check BA's website you will see that they will through check you luggage on separate tickets if you are travelling only on BA or on BA and another oneworld airline. While it doesn't say they won't through check for other connections, this isn't something you want to find out when you arrive at CPH. You likely will need (at least) an extra hour to collect your bags, transfer to T3 and re-check in.

Separate tickets can be a nightmare - If at all possible try and avoid this.

No, bags won't be through checked on seperate tickets, unless it is seperate BA or Oneworld tickets. Also, if the entire trip is tickets on BA tickets but with the connection on another carrier, then through checked bags will be possible.

I have flown BA and VS to the US via LHR.
BA were pleased to send my luggage through with no problem, as I had my VS ticket when checking in at TLV.
Upon arrival at LHR (T4) I transferred to T3, cleared security and checked in at the VS desk. I showed them my luggage tags and they amended my records.
My luggage was put on the plane and I picked it up in the US.
I do not see a problem for you interlining your bags.
Have a great trip.

I did the same. VS + BA, BA + AZ. It was never a problem.
