Unidentified certainly has big growth plans. Seriously, it seems unusual that 15% of their orders are unidentified this year. Does anyone recall how many UFO's there were in 2005.

Will Boeing reach 1,000 orders this year, they will have to have a great last 1.5 months to get there.

For the year (orders thru 11-15, deliveries thru Oct):

Model Orders Deliveries Ratio
737 574 251 230%
747 42 12 350%
767 8 10 80%
777 56 52 108%
787 142 0 <70> 200% Assumed 7 planes/mo

So except for the 767, orders are at a pace higher than production with 3 models selling at double production.

They need another 175 orders. IMO I think it's doubtful barring a mega order (like 100 787 from AA). I think they'll get over 900 easily.

Very interesting difference, last year total unidentified orders numbered 23. This comprised single orders for a 737-700, 737-800, and 767-200ER, as well as 16 73Gs and 4 738s.

Very interesting indeed. But I wouldn't be surprised if it's for somebody in Dubai.

I wonder if PR might figure in a number of the UFO 777s for GECAS.

Dig those ugly grey engines on the 787BBJ. I understand it saves fuel, but is that really necessary on the 787BBJ livery? I mean, most private customers are just going to paint the whole thing white anyway.

That wasn't the total "unidentified" orders for the whole year, it was just what was left over as unidentified at the EOY. Boeing has tons of orders that the airline choosing the list as UFO until they are ready.

It has nothing to do with "growth" in the UFO sector. Many of them will be "identified" before the close of the year. It was the same way last year and the year before... and the year before...

822 orders so far and the SpI reports suggest a 50 widebody order . Even if we assume that half of that would be previous UFO's being revealed it still makes close to 850 firm orders for the year so far. 150 jets isnt all that hard to sell IMO over the next 1.5 months since boeing sold over 284 aircrafts between Nov. 16th and Dec.31 of last year!!

Quoting BoeingFever777 (Reply 5):

Depends on the 787 Slots issue , If boeing is able to decide on a Post 2009-2010 ramp up by this month then they will pick up a fresh flow of orders comming in . Moreover expect the 20 Aeroflot slots to be gone before year end. IMO there will be a slight 737 increase towards mid december which will get them past last years total !!

Regarding the 777 UFO's...
The understanding is that 15 of the 16 is for GECAS.
Any eductated guess's who the lone 777 is for?

Its a single 777-200ER ordered on October 27th.

It's also incredible to look at the wide-body vs. narrow-body sales. Of their total 822 firm orders for the year, 248 of them are wide-bodies! Just incredible. The margin on those are pretty sweet too -- you can bet there's no "fire sale" on 777 and 787 slots. Even the 767 has sold 8 frames this year!  Smile

Actually i bet it is... i just looked up their previous order and it was for only 2 772ER's. They have made public comments about receiving a 3rd one late next year. I bet this is her.  Smile

I hope the negotiations go thru for the rumored 773ER for TAAG.

As far as the 787 UFO's go... i know its been talked about before in bits and peices but lets see if we can figure out all the individual orders.

787 has UFO orders for:
Order for 1 x 789 on 3/3
2 x 788 on 7/28
2 x 788 on 8/15
11 x 788 on 9/15
2 x 788 on 9/25
6 x 788 on 9/26
10 x 788 on 10/4

I think that it's just the way that announcements fall throughout the year - what we need to remember that both OEMs are having great years - both selling far more planes in a year than they could make thus adding to their backlogs. The only gap I can see is the AB widebody sales which are not bad but not amazing.

It is likely thay they're going to be some more 330s booked by the end of the year.

Who would buy a single 789? I would have to imagine its a add-on... the pairs i can see going to specific airline, but a single one?

I beleive the order for 6 x 788 was discussed in detail, but i can't find it now...

A bit of both I think. Airbus couldn't have slowed down any from a couple of months earlier in the year. wink

I believe Leahy said in his recent interview that he expected Boeing to win this year's sales numbers.

BA, EK, VS? (is 5 enough to replace 6 A380s? more 346s as well?)

I like this scenario... Possibly with KE getting a large chunk of them. EK certainly "needs" planes, or so they say. BA loves their 777's but there is nothing like a 747 to cross the Atlantic in.  Smile
I'd go with 15 for each for 748's (with KE split between F and I).

I think they will not but come close to it.

It depends, if we see any sort of order out of BA, AA, WN, etc, we could see it get a nice bump. I think the 787 has a good number of orders yet to come in this year, 777 is doing great, and 737 is very consistent.

The big thing is how many widebodies boeing is selling..... in terms of dollars, this could be a record year.

You got me.  Wink "Two-character" code. is that better? hehe

With only 8 orders on the 767 this year, how long can the 767 line stay open. When they do unfortunately close the 767 line what aircraft will takeover the line?

With 973 ordered and 945 delivered they have 28 left to produce and deliver to customers(one is already made and doing testing, its for LAN Chile). At a rate of 20 days (1 aircraft pushed out every 20 days) you are looking at about a two year backlog.
Unless of course the USAF comes thru for KC767's...

25, 15, 5
=
BA, CX, GECAS

25 for BA is a no brainer, CX was rumored to be looking at the 748i over the 380 and 15 sounds right, and since GECAS just firmed UFO 777s, you'd think they are waiting for something else before making the "big announcement" regarding the 748i, maybe firming up those contracts which are still under negotiation...

Wow... that's incredible. I didn't realize the 767 was so close to having sold and delivered 1000 frames. Out of curiosity, how many other aircraft types have sold over 1000 frames? I know there have been thousands of 737 and A318/19/20/21 orders and deliveries. What about other types? 747 is one that comes to mind. Any others?

By strict definition, yes, but we all know that the DC-9 family includes the MD-80/MD-90/717, and in some cases the differences aren't all that huge.

Dc-9 is the md-80 and company in my books... Those later aircraft are much like the 737ng's which are still 737s in my books.
