What Are These 2 777'S Doing Here In FRA?

Fri Nov 17, 2006 6:19 am

To the right of the picture you can see two RG 777's ...
Whats the reason for their trip to FRA ?
Wasnt this pic taken before RG were in that phase of 'will they go out of business/will they stay in business'
There may be a simple answer so if someone could enlighten me Id be much appreciated !

Cheers,

Joe

I'm pretty sure Varig had 2 daily flights into FRA. That's the remote stand where the aircraft spend the day, between morning arrival and evening departure. The most surprising thing about that pic is that there aren't any more aircraft at the remote stands, which can be quite full during some hours of the day.

Could one of those be the one getting scrapped soon and the other be the one sitting at JFK now?
That pic was from almost 18 months ago so its quite possible (thats about how long the JFK one has been sitting there.)

I pass that plane sitting at JFK every morning on my way in. It is such a shame to see a perfectally good a/c like that not doing what it was made to do...fly.  cry

I think the 777 on top (with the 75th anniversary titles) is the one that is now going to AM (wearing the airline's new colours).

Varig use to run GRU-FRA with 2 777-200ER "PW" (PP-VRE, now at JFK and PP-VRF on ground at GIG) and also GIG-FRA with their 2 best 777-200ER "GE" frames (PP-VRA and PP-VRB).

As the date of the picture, probably the one with 75 years aniversary sticker is PP-VRB (VRA at that time was on ground waiting for an engine).

The other could be even VRE or VRF.

Could it be anything to do with the Confederations Cup which was held in Germany in the summer 05? Frankfurt was one of the host cities for the small tournament and Brazil won it.

No, Varig runs daily flights to Germany from two points in Brazil: GIG and GRU.

The plane use to arrive FRA by 1430 local time and depart by 2200 - 2230 (local time also). They are on remote waiting for the night flights FRA-GIG and FRA-GRU.

Just it.

This is the so-called open-door-place at FRA...

Because Varig always parked their airplanes there with open doors to let fresh air ainside...(B767,777,MD11...)

the pic is taken in 2005 and must be around 7pm because the Etihad plane at D13 arrived around this time and the Emirates plane on E9 as well.

It is actually a little later than 1900, prolly around 1930ish. You can tell by the OZ 747 which is being pushed back (departure time 1940 usually, and they are very strict about being on time), then the EI A320 sitting up top which arrived 1920 and left 2015 as far as I remember. Then there's also a TK 737 being pushed back, which had a flight to IST around 1940ish as far as I remember, but you can never be sure with their countless charters into FRA, and yes, the EY A330 and EK A330, which both arrived around 1850 if I remember correctly. Been a long time, but I worked on all of them. Heck, I might even be in the picture somewhere! Try to find me with one of those safety jackets on!  bigthumbsup

But to the original question. Those B777s were parked out there during the day between the noon arrivals and the evening departures. And wasn't one of their B777 flights alternating with an MD11?

Cheers,
Thilo

If I count all the mentioned airlines together this would mean you are working or had worked for Fraport  Wink Big grin
OZ, EI, TK, EY, EK are some of the many airlines handled by Fraport...

Yes, RG8744 (later on RG8778) because of PP-VRA problem run in alternate with an MD11.
