Construction At PHL Airport

Mon Jul 10, 2000 5:10 am

Hi All,

Today I was passing by PHL and I saw that there is some construction going on. They making another building next to the hangar on the south side of the airport. Here is the picture of that place. That new building will be just beside of this hangar.

PHL is building 2 terminals, a commuter one, and an international one that are under construction right now.

PHL Construction

Rafal:

Actually, that must be an old picture since the new 12 gate expansion of the International Terminal required the demolition of the old TWA hanger which has been gone quite some time now. Construction of the new International Terminal will not be completed until late 2001.

At the other end of the terminal complex, US Airways is building a new commuter terminal (Terminal F). To make room, Atlantic Aviation just moved to new facilities beside the new commuter runway. The old Atlantic hanger next to the new terminal also will be torn down.

In conjunction with the new terminals, two more parking garages will be added and the existing three will get facelifts to match the new ones in appearance. Also, the approach ramps from I-95 will be moved further South and West to accomodate the new International Terminal. [Won't that be fun for a few months!] Pictures of the new terminals are included in US Airways Annual Report on their website.

Finally, US Airways is building a new hanger (replacing the old TWA hanger, but much larger) that will accomodate their widebody aircraft. The skeleton of that hanger is up and they were putting the roof on it when I was at the airport last week. The new hanger sits just South and West of the old Scott Paper headquarters and the satelite parking.

Thanks for detailed answers. Yes this is old picture, I didnt visit PHL for over 8 months. I saw that construction from I-95 going back to MD. I'm glad that they build new terminals over there.
