Winglet On 733!

Fri Nov 17, 2006 9:13 am

I was reading the December issue of Airways magazine, and I saw a 733 with winglet.

Do you know if others airlines have 733 with winglet?

WN will soon begin winglet retrofit on a large number of the 733 fleet

And you're still looking at the Air Plus 733/W as the Hamburg one is just that bird.

CO will also begin to have 733 as well as 735s next year with winglets.

Will any of the other older 737 models recieve winglets such as the 400 and 500 series?

As mentioned above, CO has plans to equip quite a number of 733/735s starting next year with the winglets.

No customer has yet signed up for winglets on -400s, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that happen sooner or later, albeit definitely in smaller numbers than the 733, and most likely also in lower numbers than the 735.
That said, which carriers are there that actually operate larger fleets of 734s (aside from AS)?

Our local Brussels Airlines' merger partner Virgin Express (TV) has started fitting ones on its Boeing 737-300 jets.

JAL for example.

The winglets look better on the NG models with the longer wingspan, however they still look good!

I was gonna just say that since US plans on keeping 737's for a while that the should do this on their 300/400's. They would look awesome. They are going in for paint soon anyway.

JAL for example.

Isn't JL planning on retiring them in favor of 738s though? Obviously then adding winglets would not make too much sense. Though given that JL mostly uses them domestic, winglets would probably not give them any advantages to begin with.

Should be Sunday/Monday for the first VEX (OO-VEK) to roll out in the Brussel Airlines livery. Roll out will be at Bournemouth so look out for a VEX flight on flight tracker routing from EGHH.

They are adding winglets to 90 of the 733's to be exact.  Smile Started already and will be finished by early 08 was my understanding.

The APB 737 Classic winglet STC (ST01219SE) only covers 737-300s. If a customer were to emerge, work would be done to extend the STC to -400s or -500s.

Incidently the first 733 to be retro-fitted with the new winglets was OO-VEX, of Virgin Express.

On that vein, JAL just took delivery of its first 737NG, a 737-800 with winglets. This is the first of many to come (30 I believe), so it's obvious they were able to justify the addition of winglets to the fleet.
