JAL RFP To Order 10 To 15 CRJ Or E-JETS

Fri Nov 17, 2006 9:12 pm

JAL Group are looking to acquire 10 to 15 Regional Jets as per the following report;

By Chan Sue Ling and Masumi Suga

Nov. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Japan Airlines Corp., Asia's biggest carrier by sales, plans to order as many as 15 regional jets as it seeks to regain the lead in the domestic air travel market.

''We'd like to make a decision by the end of the fiscal year'' through March, 2007, Chief Executive Officer Haruka Nishimatsu said in an interview yesterday at the sidelines of an aviation meeting in Osaka, western Japan. ''We haven't yet decided on whether we will choose Bombardier or Embraer.''

Bombardier have offered the CRJ-700 and Embraer have not made any comment. Even though JAL operate many Bombardiers I feel this could be a good opportunity for the Embrear E-Jet to gain a foothold in the Japanese market.

Given that JAL have some CRJ-200s, I would say thay could go the Bombardier way. CR7s seem a quite logical choice.
Any ideas for a signature?

If runway lengths are not an issue, they should opt for the CRJ900, which allow them to configure the cabin for everything between 70 and 90 seats, one-class or two-class, so they can offer nice and competitive inflight services as the market dictates.
