Nagoya-Europe Market

Hello,

A few European services have been started to Nagoya these years.

Air France: Air France used to operate to NGO via NRT before its route structure was re-built back in the mid-1990s. Then on 1st July 1997 the route was
re-opened as a non-stop code-share flight with JAL using the Airbus A340-300.
For Summer 1998 the frequencies were upgraded to 3 weekly flights (to catch up with BA and have more flexibility with the use of the aircraft and crews)
The last flight was made on 27th March 1999, as the aircraft was needed elsewhere on the network, on more profitable routes.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines: It started the route 28th October 1997, as the end of the AMS-CTS (Sapporo)-NGO flight, operated twice weekly with a two-class
747-400

BA: I don't know when they started, but they dropped the route at the end of the Summer 1998. From what I have heard the LHR (not sure about Heathrow or
Gatwick) had low load factors.

Lufthansa: I don't know they opened the route, however they upgraded to three weekly services just after Air France left the market and they use an
A340-300.

Japan Airlines: They operate a twice weekly service using a DC-10 (do they still use it?) on London-Heathrow.

The NGO route isn't among the most profitable routes for mainly two reasons:
- Nagoya belongs to the destinations you need two aircraft to provide a daily service, because the aircraft can't return to its base the same day (the flight duration is well over 10h30). So, because it is more interesting for an airline to fly daily with only one aircraft, destinations in North America should be more profitable than Nagoya.
- Passengers are mainly Japanese, workers for Toyota (see below) and traveling for holidays. So most of them are low-yield customers and travel in economy class with package tours. Business customers, be it Japanese or European remain largely focused on NRT and KIX AFAIK.

* The Toyota headquarter and one of its factory is close to Nagoya city. Toyota is the largest company that has its head office at Nagoya region (the Japanese call it the 'Chubu Area')

Hello,
I was in Nagoya this spring and I picked up a pocket flight schedule. Previously, while searching for info on NGO, I had visited a photo website that had pictures of the BA 744, AF A340, and the Lufthansa A340. But I learned when I was in Japan that the BA and AF flights had been discontinued. I can't find the schedule now, but if I do I will post the exact number of flights to Europe from NGO. Among some notable European and other international airlines serving NGO now are.

Lufthansa to Frankfurt (A340)
KLM to Amsterdam (744)
Singapore Airlines to Singapore (777)
JAL to London (It is a 744 now)
Garuda Indonesia to Denpasar (A330)
China Airlines to Taipei (A300)
Cathay Pacific to Taipei and Hong Kong (A330 & 777-300)
Varig to LAX, continuing to Sao Paolo (Md11)
Northwest to Detroit (744)
Continental to Guam (737-800)

I'll post more airlines and frequencies once I can find that flight schedule.

I don't know, probably directly after BA pulled out. I am still trying to find that flight schedule! 

Also JAL to LAX (Md11 and on Fridays a 747-200)
