Is 35 Minutes Enough Time To Connect In EWR?

Sat Nov 18, 2006 9:59 am

For my holiday break this December, I'm taking Continental Express from DAB-SYR via EWR, and I have a 35 minute connection and my flight to SYR is the last one of the day. I've heard that the flight has a terrible on-time record (it's the 6:00pm flight DAB-EWR), and I'm not sure if it's enough time. In the event that I miss my connection and it's not related to weather, is CO liable for putting me up in a hotel? Would they hold my flight? Do you think that I'll make the connection, based on the average EWR operations? Any input would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Um..two words...ATC Delays. So I would say no. Chances are you will wind up holding in the evening due to international arrivals and miles in trail delays. I would reccomend at least 1 hr.

I wouldn't recommend it. Old advice..never..take the last flight of the day if you can avoid it. Continental probably would not hold the flight for you...unless there are 20 other people on your flight trying to get to SYR.
Don't know about the hotel..not familiar with CO's policy. If it's too late to change your reservation, you might check to see if aother airline has a later flight on which CO could book you. Good luck...

Even if you made it, and I doubt you would, your bad probably would not.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't the Minimum Connecting Time at EWR 45 minutes? In other words, no, they'd be liable for nothing.

Yes it is very tight, and with the slightest problem your entire flight will be thrown off. The only positive thing is that your arrival and departure gates will be verry close to eachother as all COEX flights are in the same concourse, which is the smallest and most navigatable out of the three we have in C.

from what i can tell, just looking at the co skeds in apollo, you have almost an hour, the 6p from DAB gets in at 839p and the ewr syr leaves at 930.

as far as compensation if you miss the flight, if the delay is due to weather or atc, co will reprotect you to the next available co flight, most likely the next day. the trick as far as a hotel goes is to ask for a "distressed passenger rate" this will usually net you a voucher for either a free or reduced rate room at the hotel of continental's choosing.

DAB-EWR gets in at 8:45, and the EWR-SYR leaves at 9:20 on the day that I'm traveling. Would CO let me go standby on the 11am DAB-EWR flight?

The main thing is did you book the flight "through". If the reservation was accepeted by the airline as one journey then they have the responsibility BUT if you booked two seperate flights then bad luck

Yes. The cost would be far greater to book separately.

you're always allowed to standby for earlier/later same day flights on the day you're scheduled to travel, furthermore, you might call continental three hours before the departure of the flight you want, and see if they'll let you do confirned standy, where you pay a small fee, like 25 dollars to get confirned onto the flight, but they'll only do it less than three hours to flight time.

LMAO!!

My advice: Either get on the earlier flight, or make a hotel reservation in advanced for that evening. Plain and simple, the conncetion time will be no where near enought time.
Hold it . . . Hold it . . . HOLD THE FREAKIN NOSE UP!!
