ANA To Introduce Business Class On 737/320

Mon Nov 20, 2006 2:28 pm

According to sources from Japan, ANA will introduce Business Class on 737/320 effective 01FEB07.

Currently the 737-700 and 320 all configured in mono-class configuration.

This is part of the company's goal to increase yield and revenue.

China will be the first to get the 2-class service. For instance, Tokyo-Qingdao, operating with 200-seater 767, only have 40% load factor, but a popular route for business travellers. The new configuration will see C20Y90 instead of Y166 on a typical A320.

5 A320, newly ordered in 2006, will be mostly likely to get C20Y90 configuration, and when required, will be expanded to 737-700.

In a related article from ATWonline
ANA:All New Airline

Quote:
Yamamoto says the airline's goal is to be No. 1 in Asia in terms of "quality, customer satisfaction and value creation." To achieve this, it is ramping up frequencies with aircraft such as newly delivered 737-700s while domestic A320s will be reconfigured and transferred to China services. The 737-700s, part of a 45-aircraft buy, are being fitted with a convertible economy seat that permits a quick change from an all-economy domestic configuration with 136 seats to a 118-seat regional arrangement featuring 36 Premium Economy Asia seats. ANA also is getting 737-700ERs to be dubbed Business Jets, which are to be outfitted with only business class and premium economy for new services from Nagoya Centrair to China. Eventually, the 737-700s will replace the A320s with a forecast improvement in operating profitability of ¥6 billion annually.

Everytime I see an article about ANA it seems to be about how they are improving their product. Not to mention I keep seeing more about Nagoya. Sure hope they put in some long-haul to North America from here. I will dump NW for NH in a second if that happens.

In fact, JAL is going the same direction on its 737.

NH's 73Gs are fitted with premium economy seats in the forward third of the cabin. I am not sure this is what is meant as 'business-class.' Basically, the middle seats in this section is blocked off on int'l routes and passengers in this section have either aisle or window seats. I believe this is similar to what the European legacy carriers do on short-hauls.
The new and/or re-configured A320s will probably have the same feature.

JL's 738s have J-class seats which is bascailly the equivalent of US domestic first class. The 738s should have about 40 seats in 2-3 abreast. Their 734s and MD90s are getting their forward cabin reconfigured for J-class as well. The 734s are 2-3 abreast while the MD-90s are 2-2 abreast in J-class.

And, to completely hijack this thread:

Interestingly, despite this plan, Yamamoto is not ruling out the 747-8 Intercontinental or A380 for international operations: "We'll see what effect the A380 has on our competitiveness." Star partners Singapore Airlines and Lufthansa, along with Qantas, plan to operate the A380 to Narita.

And, to completely hijack this thread:

That aspect was actually discussed in one of the numerous "Why no A380s for Japanese carriers" threads.

Back on thread
NH has really be making some agressive moves here to expand their product and diversify.

As it stands NH is trying to become #1 in Asia in quality, customer satisfaction and value creation.
So...
NH is for yield and quality.
NH's soon to be annouced LCC will do the regional tourist routes and some longer-haul ala Jetstar.

Japanese aviation is getting exciting.
Too bad Japanese Aviation threads didn't last long. Maybe I'll bring it back someday.

I heard they'll have international configuration when they goes international, instead of Class J.

ANA is continuing to evaluate the A380 but JAL already turned it down

Eventually yes, but in the meantime they are taking up a few more. The A321s are slowing being phased out. I believe the fourth one left last month.

Yes they are. They had a huge 737 order to replace the A320s. They did order one more A320 last year but only as an interm solution. They will all be sold off. NH will be all Boeing...that is unless they at some point order the A380 which I doubt they will.

That being said...NH has yet to release any plans concerning its LCC subsidiary. Could this get the A320s? The A320 seems to be the choice for LCC ops these days.

They can take advantage of having the 2nd most slots at NRT and having the ability to establish new flights out of NGO, KIX, CTS or FUK as alternates and feeding NRT pax via those cities from either HND or NRT. Not as convenient but still Japanese aviation is fracturing. I would say that in the next 5 to 10 years there will be more passengers flying into KIX and NGO and more Japanese flying International through airports other than NRT.

Because they can't get all the preferred 737 production slot hence order 5 A320 is interim solution.

Wait until Feb 2007 for their new mid-term strategy business plan.
