Question About Continental Micronesia

I have always found Air Mike's operation to be interesting and unique. But I have a few questions...

They used to have a 7 stopper HNL-GUM and pretty much every place in between service on a 727-200. Now that the 727s are gone from the CO system is the service still operated and is it now with a 737-800?

Secondly. what is the current scope of the operation? How many weekly departures systemwide and from Guam. And if you have detailed fleet info... I know that they use 757s, 738's, and DC10s. After the DC-10s are retired will CO be putting the new 767-400s on the HNL-GUM route and the high density flights from Guam to Japan???

Unfortunately the Continental website has very little information on it, which is sad... it is unique and I'd hate to see it go. Plus one day, if I have the money, It would be fun to do that 7-stopper and see Guam.

Continental Micronesia still operates 727's and they still operate that 7 stop flight. The HNL-GUM is a continuation from IAH so they probable will switch the aircraft type when they switch the IAH-HNL portion.

Lived in Saipan back in '98 and the Asian financial crisis hit them hard. In addition to the Guam hub, they were operating several flights out of Saipan to Hong Kong, Taipei and Nagoya bypassing GUM. When the 757's came to replace the DC10-10's, they stayed less than a year only to be replaced by 737-800's. The 747's were replaced by DC10-30's on GUM-NRT and also now operate the flight to HNL and IAH. Now Saipan has only 727's to Guam with something like a weekly 737 thrown in there. The milk run to HNL is, I believe, still operated by a 727. It's an interesting operation and if anyone ha additional info, please feel free to join in.

Well I checked CO timetables last night... the 7 stopper is now flown by a 737-800. I would like to someday fly that route.

The DC-10-30 seems to be only used on CO1 from IAH and HNL and one of the two dailies to Narita.

CO still shows 757s seat maps for the Air Mike operation... otherwise it is all 738's... the only thing I found still flown with a 727 was GUM-KIX. I didn't check the flights between Guam and Saipan.

Also what are the frequencies on the flights to Hong Kong, Taipei, Manila, Denpasar, and Cairns.... probably no more than 2-3x a week.

Hopefully as the Asian economy recoveres Air Mike will expand again. I know both Guam and Saipan are popular tourist destinations for the Japanese.

CO does not operate the 738 on the island hopper (yet). Flight 957/956 is operated by a 727-200 configured for 10 first class and 143 coach. The service will switch to the 737-800 on 21 August. CO no longer operates the 757 on the Micronesia operation.

AirMic was the best flying I have done in my career. The "Island Hopper" HongKong, Japan, a lot of cool places. As said above the -800 takes over the "hopper" in Aug. The airline tells us that the operation is making money again, so good news for that base...
