Delta Recalls 700 Maintenance (TechOps) Personnel

Tue Nov 21, 2006 4:13 am

Delta is pressing ahead with a recall of 700 TechOps folks (this is in addition to the 200 previously recalled); apparently TechOps has been performing ahead of expectations....

My guess.. very few will take the re-call. I've crossed paths with a few of these guys and all have said the same thing. " Delta is a far cry from what is was just a few years ago" "The Delta caring family is long-long gone"
"It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog"

Hah, what torture. If the merger goes through, they'll just be layed off again. Get their hopes up and then knock 'em back down.

If the merger doesn't go through, then this is spectacular news. Could this possibly mean faster plane reconfigurating?

Rumor has it that of the recent recalls they're only getting about 25% takers. Since they start at the top seniority on the recall list they've gone through many of the guys who furloughed voluntarily. Many of these guys had stuff lined up before they left so few are coming back. In the next 700 it will probably be mostly involuntary furghloughees so it may be that they get a little higher return rate. The problem is it's too easy to find better job security, dayshift with weekends off, and comparable pay and benefits. In addition many of the laid off mechs didn't have that much seniority anyway so unless they've just completely struck out in their job search there's little incentive for them to come back.
