God almighty, fly Olympic! Their J-class on the brand new A340 has huge seats, state of the art ergonomic stuff, with personal TVs and reading lights on stalks. Their economy class food is excellent on long haul, yummy main meals with smoked salmon on the side, it's a huge tray, lots of salad too. J-class is even better! Printed menu etc, full amenity kit, leather folder full of stationery, baggage priority, good lounges both ends with free food, bar, fax, newspapers and magazines etc (Athens one is big and plush). You can visit the cockpit and chat with the flight crew for an hour (on every OA flight I've ever been on it's seemed like there's eight uniformed pilots up front). True about the smoking but I also consider that a major plus - anyway there won't be that much smoking in business class, and the few that are there will be dispersed due to the generous seating.
And you're considering giving all this up and flying in Economy on a US airline where you'll be treated like dirt and either starved or poisoned instead? No footrest? No second / third / forth drinks service (and nothing before take-off, not even an orange juice)? Tiny seats surrounded by noisy idiots? In a ten year old 767? With call buttons that may as well be disconnected? And no IFE?
If only all life's decisions were this easy.
