Aeropostal To Begin FLL-VLN 07Mar07

Fri Nov 24, 2006 5:38 pm

Aeropostal, in what they say is a response to American Airlines' new Miami-Valencia flight, will begin non-stop service between Fort Lauderdale and Valencia on 7 March 2007. Flights are not yet bookable. News release:

No idea how this effects plans to fly Fort Lauderdale-Maracaibo.

It is interesting to see this sudden "war" going on at Valencia. A few years ago, Valencia was performing so poorly for Aeropostal that the Miami non-stops only operated during the summer and Christmas, going via Maracaibo 75% of the year. Now, switch to 2007, and Aerpostal is dumping Miami-Maraciabo non-stops, and next month will be flying Miami-Valencia 11x a week. Add AA and VH's new FLL service, and Valencia will have triple the service to South Florida that larger Maracaibo does.

I can't quite explain the demise of MAR but VLN it's very understandable due to the collapsed bridge in the highway linking CCS with Caracas. People from VLN would drive 2.5 hours to CCS in order to take the flights there, but now that the same trip can take between 4 and 6 hours, the VLN flights have seen a rise in demand.

MAR demise might be related to Copa's new service and the increase of capacity by AA (738 -> 757). People working in Copa have told me that they expect MAR to go daily and upgraded to 73G very soon. Right now it's very common to see CM sub in a 73G for its MAR flights.

Saludos desde Caracas,
Luis

There is, frankly, no such "demise of Maracaibo"... the only demise we see here is that of Aeropostal whose true performance is abysmal compared to AA or CM.
Indeed, as I posted over two months ago, Maracaibo is set to go daily by summer 2007 as far as Copa is concerned with punctual, efficient and competitive services in addition to a host of destinations. In Florida alone, they are the best alternative so far from Maracaibo to Orlando.

It would be interesting to see what will happen to Aeropostal when American enters the market in true force in Valencia and their monopolistic position ends... they will then start complaining of overcapacity, unfair competition.. you name it !! All "à la Ramiz".

Greetings from Cancun.

Wow, great news for VLN. An impressive increase in the international flights for this airport. I hope this can be done. However VLN really needs another terminal, to accommodate for people and improve the waiting area and checking area. As MAH4546 a little war has started between VH and AA in Venezuela.
