Hadj Jets This Year

Sat Nov 25, 2006 12:18 am

I think it would be interesting to start a thread under which all of this season´s "Hadj"-jets (which are often in shortlived hybrid liveries) are collected. Feel free to add your finds.

To start which, two Garuda oddities:

Particularly strange is to me why they didn´t paint the A330s tail blue.

Garuda Indonesia is leasing 13 aircraft this year, including 4 B747s, 4 B767s and 5 A330s, in addition to which one Garuda frame will be dispatched to the Hajj operation. The airline will also reinforce its mailine operations into JED. Garuda will be carrying approximately 104,000 pilgrims in 275 flight groups to both Jeddah and Madinah starting next Tuesday, November 28. The last return flight will be operated on February 01. It's an operational nightmare I am not particularly looking forward to.

Four A330s have been repainted at MAN ready for use by Garuda on Hadj duty. These are OY-VKG/H and I, all A333s of My Travel and G-OJMB, a 332 of Thomas Cook. Pictures can be found on www.ringwayreports.co.uk/ringway.htm

Perhaps for GA? Didn't GA lease a few QF 743s for the Hajj last year?

Yeaps... GA will operate at least one QF 743... will be doing the stop over in Al Ain (AAN) for cockpit crew change purposes I am told... though the crew will be based in AUH... well, that's what I am told anyways...

Indonesia Hajj embarkation ports:
1. CGK, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Intl. (SV/GA 742/3/4)
2. SUB, Surabaya Juanda Intl. (SV/GA 742/3/4)
3. SOC, Solo Adi Sumarmo Intl. (763/A332/333)
4. UPG, Makassar Hasanuddin Intl. (MYT A333)
5. BDJ, Banjarmasin Syamsudin Noor Intl. (TUI 763)
6. BPN, Balikpapan Sepinggan Intl. (TUI 763)
7. PLM, Palembang Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Intl. (TUI 763)
8. MES, Medan Polonia Intl. (QF 743)
9. BTJ, Banda Aceh Intl. (GA A330?)

and I think there's also:
10. MDC, Manado Sam Ratulangi Intl (I think this is covered by domestic flights connecting in UPG or BPN or SUB or CGK).
11. BTH, Batam Hang Nadim Intl. (Normally stopover for SOC, UPG, BDJ, BPN flights when carrying pax)
12. PDG, Padang Minangkabau Intl. (Emerg. enroute altn for CGK)

But dun count me on the above... I've yet to receive the info myself.

Makes perfect sense??? I believe that the GA 763's will also be using AAN instead of AUH this year...

Your list is correct, except for Surabaya, which is entirely served by SV with up to 8 daily B747s and sees no Garuda flights. Garuda will deploy an A333 for the Hajj from both Banda Aceh and Medan. Pilgrims from Manado and Mataram (Lombok Island) will be shuttled through domestic flights to Makassar (UPG) and Surabaya (SUB) respectively. Batam (BTH) serves as a stopover point.
