Larger Cups In Y On DL?

Mon Nov 27, 2006 5:47 am

I just got back from Thanksgiving break today and noticed that DL served drinks in larger cups today than they did a week ago. It seems like they are almost double the size of the old plastic cups. It's nice to see DL is adding things back to the Y flying experience!

What was your flight? Aircraft?

I flew SFO-CVG-RIC yesterday and didn't notice anything different.

On a side note, when I flew LAX-OAK on WN, they had shockingly tiny cups compared to DL.

Today I flew MOB-ATL on a CR7 and ATL-IND MD88. Both flights had the larger cups.

CCS-ATL-SEA-JFK-ATL-CCS all had larger cups. This was in F-cabin; but I guess its true for the entire flight then.

Cheers,
A.

Um, are you talking about the beverage service or the flight attendants?

Cue the half or whole can joke.....

I guess giving a little more in the beverage service is just one of the little things airlines can do to make the journey a little more pleasant. I swear the small cups that many airlines use holds about 3-4 oz of drink after they've stuffed it full of ice (Some of these F/As must have worked at a fast food place prior to becoming F/As). You take about three sips and you're left sucking on ice cubes if they don't give you the whole can.

Anyone have any pictures to compare? I didn't see any amazing difference that I could notice.

I've always gotten the 8 ounce cups in F and Y on Delta ever since they got rid of glassware (last time I saw a glass was April 2004 in the F cabin of a 757) - every other DL flight has been with the larger (8 oz) cups - I was quite surprised earlier this year when I flew AA and UA and got the smaller cups - wasn't used to it at all.

UA almost always gives a whole can without asking for it so you don't have to worry about a small cup. Ted and UA Express don't though.

It seems to me in Y, if they gave you a cold can, no one would miss the stupid plastic cups, and then they could avoid the stupid plastic cups.

UA is very good about giving you the can. On NW, when they ask what I want to drink, I'm careful to phrase it "I'll have a can of pepsi, please." lest get the 4oz cup chock full of ice.

Actually, the plastic glasses in YC (and in FC domestically) hold just shy of 11 ounces of liquid. Delta has had them for a few years now. With just the right amount of ice, one can of soda/juice fills two glasses.
