More Sked Confusion On AC YYZ CCS POS

Mon Nov 27, 2006 6:55 am

I was in CCS Nov 26th AM and strangely noticed an AC departure for YYZ via POS at 825AM, which is very unusual given time and given that the stop in POS is usually on YYZ POS CCS leg, with CCS YYZ being the non stop leg.

So out of curiosity I went on their website and am now even more confused as for next several weeks AC 73 (YYZ CCS POS) seems to be dep YYZ at 2000 non stop to CCS arriving at 0225AM with a 0315 dea for YYZ via POS, arriving YYZ 10AM!

This seems extemely unusual and cannot bode well for building the CCS leg if it remains--nobody is going to want to arrive or depart CCS at 2-3AM.

Anybody have an info on what they are doing with this, why the very strange changes in timing?

What!?

That is absolutely insane! Who'd want to take this flight ever!?

I'd rather fly via JFK with AA than having to go down to CCS at midnight!

There must be a mistake,

cheers

I thought the same thing but then re-checked the AC website--unless it's actually an error on the website. I cannot imagine arriving or departing CCS at 3AM, the airport and area are like ghost towns after about 11PM--plus where would you go?

If it is an error on website there is defintiely a different sked for the flight right now as I saw AC 73 departing CCS for POS on to YYZ at 825am on Nov 26.

It is really curious.

I just checked our ops computer, and yes you are right, the reverse routing was shown. YYZ-CCS-POS-YYZ. But ... no explanation was given.

The only thing I can imagine, is that there is some construction going at CCS now, with an alternative arrangement to land/take off from the taxi way. This is actually stated in the Jepps charts. However, this is not authorized within our SOPs, so we must use the shorter (actual) runway. Perhaps, CCS-YYZ is not possible from a shorter runway.

I took that flight this summer and the routing was departing from CCS to YYZ at 11:50 pm. I believe this lasted the whole summer, because a month ago I checked the schedules and It showed the arrival at CCS at the early morning. However, this timing you are saying is because the main runway work that is been made at CCS. It is the only logical reason as LongHauler said.

There is a picture in the database where it shows a CO 737 landing in the taxiway in the early morning at CCS.

Does AC fly the A319 on that route? I have always been suprised that POS and CCS needed to be linked from YYZ. Zoon flies 763s into POS from YYZ and BWIA flies 738s and used to occassionally fly the A343 into YYS from POS, why can't AC fill a larger plane and fly the routes as separate flights? Surely there is enough demand from CCS and POS to fill separate flights!

Totally agreed. I have no idea why they haven´t separated both flights. I know they have a lot of competition from POS but from CCS is the only non stop way (without touching US soil). Is there anybody who can explain this?

My guess is lack of equipment. Both the CCS and POS flights require the "overwater" version of the A319, of which we have only 5. As more and more EMB 190s are delivered, and apparently some of which will be equipped for overwater flying, this will free up the overwater A319s and you may see more Latin America operations.

Well, there it is.

CCS is undergoing through a partial mainteinance activity in their main runway (10/28), as a result, all aircraft are landing/departing on the side taxiway, that used to be a runway before.

Excellent answers to my questions and indeed it makes sense.

How will this impact AA and DL (and CO) on some of their late night arrivals from DFW, JFK (AA) ATL (DL) and IAH (CO)? Presumably if the runway is out of commision overnight that may impact them as well?
