Lufthansa MUC Hub

Tue Jul 11, 2000 7:00 am

Hello,

Anyone would have the history of this hub please?
When was it opened?

I know there were LH services to BKK and KIX. Anyone would know when they started them? When they dropped them?

When did they open the ORD, SFO and EWR routes please?

Thank you,

Best regards,

I hear that LH is evaluating service between MUC and ATL to compete with DL on the route. Anyone know anything about this?

They started to build up the hub when the new airport was opened. I don't know if they did that from the very beginning but they started soon.
I don't know about the other routes but the SFO flight is rather new. (maybe a year ?) THey're using a B747-400 on that one.
The hub is getting much better now, cause airlines are starting new longhaul services like Varig to Brazil, Air Canada to Toronto, ...

The SFO-Flights started about 4 years ago as an only summer serive. Since last year its served all over the year but in the winter schedule are only 3 weekly flights on an A340. During the summer season its a B747-400 since 1998. Newark and Chicago are served for a long time even before Munich II opened. MUC had also Tokyo serive from Lufthansa on Saturdays (B744) but that service was dicontinued in 1993. Osaka and Bangkok were stopped because of th asian crisis. Now there are more long haul flights from LH code share Partners from Munich but in 2001 LH will base 3 more A340 at the Airport (then there will be 6 A340 based at MUC).

What will be the new routes then in 2001 with those A340?
I think Japan again, BKK or SIN and an american city (BOS, LAX,..)

I think the new flights will be going to Singapore, Mexico and Tokyo because of the Star Alliance connections with Singapore Airlines, Mexicana and All Nippon Airways.
