US Carriers And Different Aircraft

Tue Nov 28, 2006 10:09 am

I have noticed that no US carriers carry the A310,A340,737-600,777-300. Is this for a reason or just carrier choices?

Well, only 2 carriers fly the 747. The 773 has been deemed too big for the majors, it might be a 744 replacement or UA and NW might just wait for the NG widebodies.

The 736 is a shrink and has pretty bad economics. A large RJ can do the job at a much lower cost. It has alot of extra weight for its pax capacity.

The A340 was on order by US carriers at one time, but other widebody twins have been deemed better suited for the market here. A330, 767, 777 have been deemed better by the bean counters.

Quoting Continental123 (Thread starter):
no US carriers carry the A310

The original Pan Am had the A310, which then went to Delta. Delta disposed of them after only a short time.

DL used to have A310's but dumped them in favor 763ER a/c. If I remember correctly, the 762ER competes with the A310 and the 762ER has more range.

Remember the 736 competes with the E-190. The 773 is too big for some carriers and the capcaity isn't warranted.

I do not know about the A340 but can tell you most airlines like cheaper prices and the A330 fits the bill.

Hope this helps,
