NW A319 To S7? Why So Early?

Tue Nov 28, 2006 10:36 am

Hi,

I was surfing the database and came across the first A319 for Siberia Airlines (S7). See the photo below:

Then when searching for more photos of this particular aircraft, I came across the photos of this aircraft's previous owner/operator: Northwest Airlines (see photo below):

This surprises me, why would NW dispose of such a new aircraft so early?

Remember that NW is currently under bankruptcy protection, which means that they have to downsize a bit and cut costs where they can. My best guess is that those A319s left NW because either they don't need them, or they couldn't obtain a more favourable lease rate for them.

Here is your answer as to why NW's DC-9s aren't going anywhere....

DC-9s are paid for, A319s are not  Smile

I should have known it would only be a matter of time until someone brings up the DC-9s.  Wink

They rejected the lease for that aircraft.
