Dragonair Leasing A330s To Air China

Wed Nov 29, 2006 2:43 am

Just came back from a quick jaunt down to Shanghai, and found to my delight that both of my CA flights were being operated by leased Dragonair A330s (B-HYG going down, B-HYH coming back). The aircraft came complete with Dragonair flight crew and senior cabin staff.

We know CA, KA, and CX are one large extended family, but does anyone out there have details on why CA is leasing these birds, and how long they'll have them for?

Thanks,

David

This actually happened before the whole CX/CA/KA buyout drama.

Well, the CX/CA/KA drama has actually been ongoing for seven years, at least at the group level. The recent transaction was basically the second act.

So when did the leasing start?

What happened to the new 330 that KA received last month? Has this gone to CA too?

The leasing started before Air China even got their A330-200s. The Airbus on lease are constantly rotated among the fleet of old cabin A330-300s.

Anyway only those old cabin A330 flies for the Air China routes. The newest cabin A330 still fly for KA.

Dragonair have 4 aircraft on wet-lease to Air China. The contracts expire next year and they will upgrade the services to PVG and launch extra Kaoshiung taiwan flights.
