Similar Liveries

Thu Nov 30, 2006 8:48 pm

I saw this picture to the left in an earlier thread today (Shortest life of an airliner) and I was sure it was an old AR aircraft. Aren't this liveries very alike? Any other examples of this?

I can still get it wrong when taking a quick look on a LTU 757 and think of the Greenlandair 757 (today Air Greenland) in it's former livery. BTW my home country carrier. Love it!

So far I think Transaero-Air France takes the prize. I went to the Transaero website to check if it was a subsidiary to AF. I wonder how much alike it must get before the design is considered a copycat job.

They are very closely linked, I think they are in some sort of alliance, hence the variation.

Haha, that's hilarious!

Transaero is one of a very few MAJOR airlines in Russia. (Aeroflot, Transaero, Sibir). Nothing to do with AF. The livery isn't the same, sure it's similar, but it can't be a copycat since it's still a different design.

Actually when I asked about the similarity I found out that CKT leased a few aircraft to North American at one point and NAA liked the livery and "borrowed" it. Still it's always nice to wonder what the Caledonian livery would look like on a 767 and 737 eh  Wink

I jolly disagree. Although a little bit different the Transaero brand and livery ARE inspired and based on the Air France brand and can be said to be a 'copy cat'-livery. It doesn't say anything that they are major airline.

North American Airlines and Caledonian Airways

True, the first aircraft North American operated was a 757 leased from Caledonian. Like Dutchbird with Condor, North American adopted part of Caledonian's scheme to presumably save on paint bills. Also like Dutchbird, the livery was then used fleetwide, including on aircraft types never operated by Caledonian.

Well I think that clearly Flyjet and ATA Brazil are the most alike airline liveries mentioned on this post so far.

Practically identical, and they're not linked at all as far as i'm aware.

Agree they win the prize.

As far as I am aware they have no links. There must be more behind it though, the chances of two separate airlines/designers coming up with liveries that similar must be millions to one!

The first photo of Flyjet in the database is May 2003. First photo of ATA Brasil is January 2003, at Southend. So it seems they both came about at the same time.

I'd love to know if there is more behind it than sheer coincidence?!

Considering most if not all airlines hire design companys to come up with a scheme it is very possible that a lot of the airlines mantioned above use the same company ie. El Al & PIA.
There is no copyright infringements because the airline would not own the livery the company who designed it would. That may be an answer to a lot of the similer liveries above.

You're sooo way off! CM bought P5 earlier in the year. P5 is Colombia's second largest airline, after AV. It has nothing to do with being CM's "express airline." It's a totally different airline by itself.
