F9 Flight Attendants Reject Union Again

Fri Dec 01, 2006 11:57 am

Article Excerpt:

"Frontier Airlines Holdings Inc. said Thursday its flight attendants have voted against a union representation offer from the Teamsters. Airline spokesman Joe Hodas said 334 votes were cast in favor of representation, short of the minimum of 445 votes needed for the measure to pass.

This was the first time that the International Brotherhood of Teamsters campaigned to represent the flight attendants, Hodas said. The Association of Flight Attendants managed four previous attempts."

Union representation at the airlines?.. can anyone say "express train to Chapter 7"? Unions are pointless in low yield industries... they serve only to keep employees angry at management and management continuously shoveling out company-crippling concessions to people that would be better off (and happier) working in other industries.

Unions are pretty normal for European companies (outside the English speaking countries of course) and mandatory in most. Airlines are no exception.

Still they make profit.

Southwest is quite heavily unionized. Delta, on the other hand, only has one union, I think, the pilots.

Which is in Chapter 11?

Sorry, I don't uderstand your point. I don't think Southwest even existed long before deregulation. If at all.

Open to be corrected, of course, I didn't live in the United States then.

WN's first flight was in 1971. They were incorporated sometime before then. Dereg was in 1978.

Thanks for that. It's been quite a rise in such a (relatively) short space of time, then.

Two. The dispatchers at Delta are also unionized.

I don't know. I wasn't around back in 1971 when they first unionized.
