TA And IB To Start Frequent Flyer Agreement

Sat Dec 02, 2006 9:22 am

Just got this in my inbox...

Starting Dec. 1st, Distancia (TACA's frequent flyer program) members will be able to redeem tickets on Iberia flights to 105 destinations in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. They will also be able to earn miles on IB flights, depending on the booked class.

More info available both in English and Spanish at taca.com. However, I found nothing at the Iberia website...

Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.

Is it me or does this frequent flyer partnership between TA and IB give the impression that TA just might join oneworld and not Star Alliance like previously rumoured?

bilateral FF programmes on their own dont necessarily have any significance - just look at 9W for instance who have FF relationships with *A , ST , and OW carriers .

I would have also thought that OW was pretty crowded in Latin America between AA , IB and the entire LA group - bearing in mind that TA used to have an FF relationship with AA and dropped it I think it more likely that this signifies TA are not committing to any alliance and are keeping their options open
