Runway Ops At DFW?

Mon Dec 04, 2006 4:56 am

Just a quick question regarding the runway usage at DFW.

Are certain runways only assigned for landings and take offs??

Any info much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

KC135topboom can probably tell you for sure, but my recollection is that on a south flow (which is most of the time), on the east side they usually use 17L and 17C for landings and 13L and 17R for departures, and on the west side they usually use 13R and 18R for arrivals and 18L for departures. They don't use 13R for departures, or 13L for arrivals since their flight paths would cut across the finals for the other runways and impact their use.

Actually if all runways are open and available........

South Flow:

Arrive 17L/17C/18R/13R.......depart 17R/18L and if parked close to 13L

North Flow:

Arrive 36L/35C/35R/31R.......depart 35L/36R/31L

OPNLguy is right. Unless they have high crosswinds from the northwest, which pushes them into a two runway ops using just 13L and 13R for both takeoffs and landings. Very rare, but does happen a couple of times a year or so.

Also, it seems like now the have separated take offs by destinations i.e, west bound departures are almost always on the west side runways (18L/36R) and east bound departures on the east (17R/35L) - correct me if I am wrong on this. You don't get to see LH or BA take off on the west like you used to every now and then in the past.
I've flown on 9V-SPK.

So you post on operation that happens 2 times a year!  Sad

More than that so far this year... Makes thing interesting for sure.

As posted above ...
On a South Flow...
17R is the main departure runway on the East side, with 13L being used for some turboprop departures. 17C, and 17L are mainly arrival runways. 18L Is the main departure runway on the West side. With 18R, and 13R used as arrival runways.

On a North flow...
35L is the main departure runway on the East side. With 35C, 35R, and 31R used as arrival runways. 36R is used as the main departure runway on the west side, while 31L is used for some turboprop departures. 36L is the main arrival runway.

I'm sure KC135Topboom will correct me/ elaborate. but thats all I can think about at the moment
I'd like to thank me for flying Me Airways...

Though it's more like 31L and 31R when the winds come from the northwest.
Has happened twice in the past 3 weeks in fact.
