Something Strange?

Wed Jul 12, 2000 8:57 am

It costs 107$ to fly from CMH to YYZ making a connection in CLE where i live. But to fly from CLE-YYZ it is around 200$. strange. 90 bucks is worth a 2 hour drive i think. Now i just have to covince the other travelers of that. WE could play the hidden city trick but why would I? I love planes !!!   -che (hope that fare lasts)

Haven't the airlines done something to prevent this from happening?

Yes, you dont get on at your "orgin" of your original ticket, then you are taken out of the computers and if you try to get on at your connection, you can't b/c it shows that you were not at your first flight, and now you have to pay EVEN MORE to get the flight from your connection to your "final destination." Or so I think...

Well, i am not sure about the american system of fares. But here in india, we have two methods of fare calculation:

1. SLD - Straight Line Distance (Most common)
2. PP (Point-to-point)

Lets say there is a flight which goes Delhi-LHR-Rome. The Delhi-Rome fare will be lower than Delhi-LHR, since it is calculated on SLD.

Then some routes offer PP fares. For eg. Lets suppose, i book a seat on a flight from Madras-Delhi and onwards from Delhi-LHR on a connecting flight, i dont pay the full fare for the 2 flights. The fare is only marginally higher than Madras-LHR direct, and the symbol PP is stamped on your ticket.
