Airline Food - Way To Make Money?

Wed Dec 06, 2006 4:05 am

I noticed that on inbound KLM flights that leave late, like 23:00, in world business class diner is served with a starter but without desert. To me that makes no sense. If you want to eat that late, then I guess you may want to have a desert as well.

In addition, on similar flights KLM skips the nuts with the first round of drinks. You can only get nuts if you skip the meal. To me that is not only cheap, it makes no sense. Does KLM really want to make money on their business class service by leaving items out?

What is actually determines what food is served?

To be honest, im amazed they have nuts.

The recent trend in England is to ban nuts, as they may trigger an attack for a allergy sufferer. It seems to be the latest trend in this nanny society we inhabit now.

For your question; could it be that the catering companies have deliberately missed out the desert being the time of night the flight departs? They may deem its inmaterial making it up. As far as I am aware the airlines have contracts for the food, and are dependant on the catering company supplying.

I don't think so. Most of the times what you end up eating on a red-eye or late night flight starts cooking/baking in the early afternoon, so there's plenty time to catch a forgotten dessert.
