Longest CRJ-200 Flight In The United States?

Wed Dec 06, 2006 4:37 am

With all the newer, more comfortable CRJ-700's and -900's buzzing around the country I was wondering if anyone knew the current longest nonstop CRJ2 flight in the country? When I had flown on a loaded CRJ2 from BUR to PHX (only about a 90 minute flight) I couldn't stand it, to me it made Greyhound sound very attractive.

Thanks,
Ryan

I know it's not the longest, but I flew LAX-SLC on a UAX CR2...and it felt like the longest CRJ flight! But having said that...I love takeoff in a CR2...weird feeling!

Sorry, just realized the BOS-MEM is actually 3hrs 25min westbound and 3hrs eastbound. Also, NW finally upgraded one of the BOS-MEM flights to a A319.

I've done DEN-BNA and BNA-DEN on a UX CRJ-200 which is just over 1000 miles. Thankfully I was in 1B so I could stretch my legs.

Fortunately, they now fly CRJ-700s with First and Economy Plus.  thumbsup

I'd say pinnacle has the longest CRJ2 flights looking at their route map. They have some flights from the rocky area to MSP or MEM and also they can also fly into El Paso from MSP! Anyways, flying a CRJ2 is not that bad as far as space, however those windows are a little annoying for spotters like me. Smile

Too long.    My neck always hurts whenever I get off of those from having to lean way down to look out the window. Though takeoff's in a CRJ, especially for a short flight such as DAY-CVG or MCN-ATL is always exciting.

Why not? I find the CR7 and CR9 decent aircraft. I find the CR2 uncomfortable and cramped, especially for looking out the window, but the CR7's and CR9's are decent, and that's coming from someone who's 6'4". Heck, I think Delta Connection CR7's are more comfortable than some of the Delta mainline jets.
And my favorite part about flying on the CRJ's (besides being able to walk out on the tarmac): Deplaning takes so much less time, not only because there are fewer people, but also because those who feel the need to bring the kitchen sink in their "Carry-on" are forced to check it plane side and thus they aren't able to spend 15 minutes collecting all their crap.

Now by "Greyhound", do you mean the bus company or Southwest Airlines?

I believe that in the current UA network this is as long as you go on a CRJ (1012 miles and under 3 hours both ways). DEN-YEG was the past CRJ champion, marginally longer at 1020 miles, but it's now CR7, and also goes outside of the USA. Therefore...

I've done DEN-BHM . . .3 hours east, 3 hours plus west, just shy at 1083 miles of the BOS-MEM record of 1138 miles.

Also CLT-IAH . . . 2.75 west.

At least on the DEN-BHM there was an F class on that UA Express CRJ7.

Pinnacle runs a CR2 from DSM-DCA, which clocks in at 897nm -- pretty far...

And this one isn't a CRJ, but Eagle runs an E135/145 daily between DSM and LGA, coming in at 1031 -- also pretty long.

MSP-ELP was on a CR7...the flight was discontinued last may  Sad IIRC, the block time for the flight was 4 hours 0 minutes...a little too long to be couped up in a CRJ, if you ask me. I always wondered why on NW MSP-RAP got a mainline A319, but they threw an RJ at ELP.

So, it looks like DTW-AUS takes the award so far by a few miles over DSM-PHX. This doesn't include MSP-ELP though since they don't currently operate it (unless it has seasonal service still).

I may be wrong, but when I was a travel agent (it was about 2-3 yrs ago) I recall AC running a CRJ from yyz-iah (1280mi,1112nm)

and i just check a site and I know its not a CRJ but CO runs an ERJ series aircraft on that sector. So this could be the longest, but I know its not in the US but its close enough.  Smile

I found that the aisle seats are alot better to sit in if you want to look out the windows. Plus if your sitting next to a big/huge person its alot more comfy than getting squished against the window.
I flew on the E145 last week and was definitely impressed with it, all the airlines can retire the CRJ200...IMO

It's not quite as long as some listed, but it's still a LONG time, blocked at 3:04 in length ...

Exactly! The point of my post is that most people on a.net like to confuse the 700-900 with the 100-200 and immediately discount any CRJ. I'm glad to see someone agree with me.

I thought I remembered seeing a CRJ-200 at DFW in ACJazz colors!

Looking through the flights now obviously they are all CR7's so I wasn't sure. I think it was in October and November of '04 when I saw it at DFW.

I remembered feeling incredibly sorry for the poor souls who had to fly all the way from the southern united states into Canada inside that thing.

Back in March of 2003, I flew on Northwest Airlinks d.b.a Pinnicle Express from MSP-PNS on a CRJ200, btw.. their 44 pax. version, that leg was about 3 hours and 10 minutes. The return leg was PNS-MSP. The scheduled flight time was supposed to be about 3 hours and 35 minutes, but we were put on hold over Minneapolis for a while. Once we were finally on the ground, the total block flight time was 4 hours and 15 minutes!

AA does LAX-XNA on a CR7, which is 1370mi. I know it's not a CRJ-200, but it's still a RJ, and the range of the flight is quite impressive.

While I cant think of any longer range CR2 routes that were already mentioned...there is a very lengthy CRJ-900 route:

YYZ-SLC, Skywest, Delta Connection, 4hrs 13mins.

Longest route for any type-CRJ in the country that I know of.

Seriously though, would you agree with me? 4 hours and 15 minutes on a CRJ200-44pax. model would tend to be a bit long? Although, the flight had only 16 other passengers on it besides myself and my parents. 4 hrs. and 15 min. PNS-MSP!!!!! It felt like i was on a private jet. but 4 hrs + on a CRJ200 is a bit long...
Last flights: LH 3738 MUC - ZRH , LH 3749 ZRH - MUC . Upcoming: EK 50 MUC - DXB 3-aug. and EK 322 DXB - ICN 7- Aug.

Back in March of 2003, I flew on Northwest Airlinks d.b.a Pinnicle Express from MSP-PNS on a CRJ200, btw.. their 44 pax. version

Known as the CRJ440 I believe and specifically built for NW.

Don't know if it is happening again this summer, but last summer there were Saturday-only flights from BGR to MSP at 1194 mi

I believe they are once again planning on this service for summer '07.

EV does fly a CRJ700 daily ATL-BGR coming in at 1134 miles.

Back in 2004 when ZW was bumped from DEN flying for United I had friends that repositioned CRJ200's in the middle of the night from DEN-MHT 1502nm. and to several other cities in the east. These were repo flights only but its quite impressive that the little barbie jet can top its tanks and fly 2/3's across the country.

While I cant think of any longer range CR2 routes that were already mentioned...there is a very lengthy CRJ-900 route:

YYZ-SLC, Skywest, Delta Connection, 4hrs 13mins.

Longest route for any type-CRJ in the country that I know of.

My best contender for that so far is the Jazz CRJ9 flights from IAH to Calgary. It's a longer distance and blocked somewhere in the 4hrs -> 4hrs 15 mins time.
Has less of a wind problem guess, since the flight is almost South - North.

NW (Pinnacle) for a short time was flying MSP-TUS in a CRJ2. That flight was always weight restricted and usually late because trying to figure out exactly what we could take.

Currently I would have to say MSP-IAH is probably the longest NW has right now on a CRJ2, Pinnacle is flying it right now but Mesaba takes it over mid December again with their 1 CRJ2.
