Belfast-Glasgow-Toronto Early 70s

Wed Dec 06, 2006 11:17 am

As a matter of curiosity, I'm trying to figure out what type of aircraft I was on as a 9-month old child when my parents and I immigrated to Canada. Does anyone have any idea what type of aircraft BEA would have operated between Belfast and Prestwick in 1970? I assume AC used the DC-8 between Prestwick and YYZ. Did they use other aircraft? Anyone with particular knowledge is welcome to respond. Hell, even educated guesses would be nice.

Don't have the 1970 schedule but here's the 1969 Summer....

AC839 PIK1450-1650YYZ 3 (Day 1 07JUL69 - 15SEP69)
AC845 PIK1510-2040YYZ 235 2-stop -02OCT69
AC839 PIK1620-1820YYZ 7 06JUL69 - 14SEP69
AC845 PIK1640-2040YYZ 6 1-stop

BEA in 69 was using Vickers Viscount from Belfast to Glasgow, not Prestwick. Air Ulster operated 2 weekly DC3 to Prestwick

Thanks Jimyvr. You mean to say I may have been on a DC-3?! This is getting interesting. I meant to say Glasgow/Prestwick. I wasn't aware that there was another airport in the Glasgow area.

Round about 1974/1975 BOAC had chartered 2 Viscount aircraft from BEA to operate PIKBFSPIK and PIKEDIABZEDIPIK in connection with the PIKJFK and PIKYULYYZ services the canadian flight was operated by a 707 which started in MAN
I think from looking back my records that the Viscounts were GAMOG and GAMON

Lessee ... was it the 1960s that Abbotsinch replaced Renfrew? Did BEA ever fly to Prestwick?
