Is Boeing Commercial Hiring At All?

Thu Dec 07, 2006 5:37 am

I was just wondering if there are Boeing insiders who know if the commercial division of Boeing will be in a position to hire domestic entry-level mechanical/aerospace engineers over the next few months.

From my understanding, it seems that the 787 project, enormously successful as it is, is handled in near entirety by a handful of domestic subcontractors and a laundry list of European and Asian subcontracting divisions.

Perhaps the new 747-8 will fuel the need for domestic engineers? Or will this be another "order out" job?

I write this because I'm about 3/4 way through grad school and I'm just trying to come up with options before I graduate this summer. I've emailed human resources, but haven't gotten a reply for the past 8 weeks. The employment website is not very helpful either because it gives little info about the pace of hiring even as two major commercial projects are still ongoing. I can however, upload a resume... but I think it is too early to take such an action since I won't be available for employment until the summer. All I really need is info now... and for the life of me I can't get any.

Yes, BCA is up from its low a few years ago. I think they've hired back most of the people they were going to, though.

Yes Boeing commercial division is hiring. Many different divisions are hiring. Did you go to the job search and look at the entry level jobs? With Boeing, the best way is to apply to jobs with your resume and apply to as many as you possibly could be interested in. They go through an automated resume reader online like most companies do, so make sure to include buzz words like "team", "cooperate", and "leader" in your resume. If you meet the requirements and the hiring manager is interested, you can get an interview. Now is the time to apply for positions starting in the summer. In general for most companies, the high quality jobs are hired months before start dates for college graduates. The companies fight to get the best.
