Passengers Arguing/fighting On Board

Thu Dec 07, 2006 5:20 pm

Having just arrived in MNL after a long trip from BGO via CPH and SIN yesterday, by far the most interesting occurence during the trip took place on the SIN - MNL leg where two passengers started arguing LOUDLY. Had it not been for the intervention of the professional SQ staff, the arguing could have gotten ugly as fists were being raised seconds before the staff separated the two. I do not know why the arguing began, but I understood that one of the passengers was seated directly in front of the other, so I can only speculate that it might have had something to do with the passenger in front reclining the seat at inappropriate times or something. Later in the flight I noticed the two passengers shaking hands, so at least the story had a happy ending.

Anyway, the whole situation was a bit scary. . .one is just not used to loud arguing on board a flight, and this is something I have only experienced once before. . .many years ago on a LH flight from OSL to FRA a group of Norwegians started arguing with a bunch of Pakistani-looking passengers directly across the isle from me. Again, had it not been for staff intervention, it could have gotten pretty bad.

Has anyone else experienced something similar, or situations perhaps even worse? It would certain be interesting to hear some stories from other anetters regarding the issue.

Once on EK076 from CDG, just before takeoff, two couples almost got into a fight after having agrued extremely loudly for a few minutes. Apparently something about the lady of one of the couple thumping with her knees in the seat in front of her...
Well anyway, it took the crew a good 3-4mn to intervene and help the things cool down a bit.
Not very funny when you know you are going to be stuck with these people for the next 7 hours  banghead

I remember being on a flight from Orlando to Manchester and at check-in there was a commotion where this gentleman (who was anythin but gentle) was effing and jeffing trying to carry-on a rather large suitcase (his missus was too). The desk clerk said he had to check it in and he wanted to carry on. He got really aggressive until security was called and he calmed down.

On the plane the two of then kept sitting in the wrong seats that they guessed were not going to be taken up before take-off and we moved a couple of times by the cabin crew.

During the flight the two of then started to argue - really argue - ending up with her going a sitting somewhere else on the plane.

When we got to MCR they waiting for the aforementioned bags at opposite ends of the carusel and she immediately jumped in a taxi without out screaming accross the concorse that he should "Go F*ck himself". Happy holidays Big grin

It happens all the time.

I been almost run over by a loud mouth guy who wanted to get to the front of the plane while everyone else is standing waiting in the aisle. Someone told him something and he insulted the guy. They almost had it out.

Another situation was when a guy put his small bag in an overhead compartment in business class, and the guy under that compartment stated to not move his bag if he knew what is good for him. Then another guy siting in business entered the argument and told the other that this is not his private jet, and that there is plenty of space. The other guy wanted to take it outside.(We were still at the gate.)

Most of these situations end of with the Crew being to blame for some odd reason. Families with children are a big problem, and the parents can't control their kids so in turn they run a mock and get others uncomfortable. The is the basis for several inflight arguments onboard. And it seems like the usual routes are always affected. And they are: CUN,MBJ,SJD,PLS,PUJ,PVR, and many other all-inclusive "getaways". But in reality none of these places are getaways at all when you just move the suburbs/ghettos to the resorts.
