Boeing's Orders For 12/6/06

Fri Dec 08, 2006 1:07 am

Boy lots of changes this week:

http://active.boeing.com/commercial/orders/index.cfm

20 x 748I for Lufthansa
5 x 748 for UFO
2 x 787 for Arkia
3 x 777 for UFO
2 x 737NG for UFO

Boeing added 32 new planes and has 862 gross and 855 net new orders. Still don't think they'll get to 1002, they'd need over 150 orders in three weeks.

Boeing has 78 748 orders so far including the 5 748F for KE which have yet to be firmed.

This airplane has been around for what, 6 months? It already has half the orders the 380 has since it launched 4 years ago.....fantastic!

Wait a minute... your not impressed that a engineering design that is 36 years is still not competitive in todays market? I'm sure that if/when 'A' had made the same achievement, you'd be filled with pride. However, since this is someone else's baby, you must knock it down.

What else from the late 1960's early 1970's is still being remodeled/updated and sold for MILLIONS of dollars a copy?

Or.. am I just reading your statement incorrectly?

It's not dismal by any means. We're at 60 777s so far this year (with an order or two yet to be firmed.) That's at least average. Of the years the 777 has been on offer, more than half of them were worse.

There are many that have been announced but remain to be firmed up such as GECAS , korean air ( thats a lot of aircraft ) , one also has to look at delivery slots which are sold out for some years.

I agree, but don't think the 380 will last more than 20 years before it is scrapped. I still think that the smaller wide bodies are the way of the future. More flexibility and will give the airlines more frequency, I think the days for the big jets are coming to their demise, except maybe Asia. People in Europe and North America want the convenience of several flights a day and not one or two.

Ok Boeing released it November O & D report. The 5 747-8 are 748F. The 3 777s are also 777Fs. This could be the Guggenheim order coming through.

The 5 x 748F is anyone's guess. Also the breakdown for GECAS's 777 order is as follows:

7 x 77W
8 x 777F

I would not say that the failed miserably since the first version of the
A350 got more than 100 orders.
Some aircraft were launched with even less orders and it was only offered for around a year !
The thing is that after a hard start the 787 began to sell like hot cake -a success nobody could have imagined (I guess a plane had never seen so many orders before it was even launched) - Airbus had to redesign it, in order to compete better with the 787 and not fall back to only a third of the marketshare Airbus or even less.
The first version of the A350 that Airbus has offered was not a success in comparision with the 787 but it was also no miserable failure that is a too harsh word IMHO. Most of the Boeing fans here would also not consider the 767-400 a miserable failure with only 38 orders and also being a derivate of the 767 family. The A350 1.1 would not have been much as a A330 with new engines and little improvements. It was not enough but no failure. I would rather call the A350 a half-hearted approach by Airbus since they were overconfident after the success of the A330 and thought little improvemenst would be enough to keep marketshare. 100 + orders for a half-hearted project with most engineers busy on the A380 and A400M is not that bad.
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

This is an inaccurate portrayal. The 747-8I also incorporates a state of the art redesign of the wing section with significant improvements in the transonic flow characteristics. In addition to the stretched fuselage and engines you mentioned there will be notable improvements in avionics and interior systems. If you tie that together with a plane, which is close to its optimum structural utilization, as opposed to the overbuilt and over-winged A380, then that is a wow factor. If the world ever needs the 1000 passenger A380-900 then Airbus might have a reasonable plane.

Selling 60 frames in one year is very good when you consider that 60 is about the production rate for the year. Boeing's website shows that 59 777 have been delivered through November. If Boeing can keep their backlog of ordered aircraft steady then they are doing quite well.

You got the names mixed up.

While the name of the A380 could be something else, the 748 certainly isn't a whale.. Wink

The 5 x 748F is anyone's guess.

Take your pick of the following, I offer my opinion only.

1: ILFC, or
2: Reliance Logistic's of India

Have a fair amount of certainty that these 5 are 747-8F's for Volga Dnepr. Expect they will be direct purchases this time rather than leases. Would not be surprised if this were announced publicly early next week.

The 3 777s are also 777Fs.

This could be the Guggenheim order coming through.

Believe NYC777 is correct in that the 777F's are for Guggenheim Aviation Partners. Expect we'll see this announced publicly early next week as well.
