FL To Bring MSY To Pre-Katrina Capacity

Sat Dec 09, 2006 7:12 am

FL will be adding its 5th MSY-ATL nonstop as of 2/16/06 in the Atlanta - New Orleans market.

The new flight departs ATL at 8:15pm and arrives into New Orleans at 8:50pm.

The return flight departs New Orleans daily at 6:00am with a 8:30am arrival into ATL.

FL has not offered an early morning departure from MSY since Katrina. It's nice to see the airline build capacity back up.

FL will join CO as the only two airlines to meet and/or exceed pre-Katrina flight totals thus far, although AA is only a few flights off of what they used to have. As for the rest, NW is still down four flights, US is still down four flights, DL has reduced capacity but the flight totals remain close to the same, B6 is down one flight, UA is down four flights, and WN a whopping 35 flights less than what they used to offer.

That should improve by 1 once they finally bring back SFO.

Nice to see FL doing an RON again. I guess all those heavily sold flights have convinced them of something.

Man that's a no brainer route. That baby went out heavy with numerous international connecting passengers. I can't wait until that one comes back.

Also as a side note, UA will be flying a B733 on one of the LAX-MSY starting in about a week....I think it lasts for about a month before they switch it back to an Airbus.

I am betting it will come in from Dulles on the one 733 flight from there, much like how the route worked before.

Yes sir, looks like it will run lAX-MSY-IAD...and a 319 will do IAD-MSY-LAX.

Hoping JetBlue adds at least MSY-BOS in 2007 in addition to the 3rd daily (RON) JFK-MSY.

Sorry to get off topic but how do you think B6 would do in the MSY-OAK, MSY-IAD markets?

Congrats to MSY for getting more service. Hopefully 2007 will see even more service added to MSY.

I think MSY-OAK would be interesting but they would get slaughtered on MSY-IAD, given that UA does MSY-IAD, US does MSY-DCA and WN does MSY-BWI.

They would be facing competition, sure, but the frequency of the flights isn't that great...only two to IAD, three to DCA, and just one to BWI.

B6 could probably make one IAD flight work with the E90.

MSY-OAK....well, since WN has no plans on bringing it back, B6 could probably do well at it.

I was in New Orleans on November 21st and November 25th. I was on Continental (757 flight) and the flight was 100% full and there was not one single seat left on the plane. An earlier flight was cancelled but they could only put about 5-10 people on the flight that I was on. While I was at MSY, I saw a DL 763 and I was pleased that the 763 was seeing decent loads to ATL, as well. It seems like air service at MSY is slowly increasing.

The time I visited New Orleans before, I came a few months after Katrina. (November 2005) It was a mess and I remember that my mom and I were confused where to go to get picked up by Hertz to get our rental car. Turns out the sign had been blown off its stand, and when the Hertz bus came around we were the only people on the bus along with one other lady. There was just one other bus and no other cars. This time when we were picked up by Hertz there were no seats left on the bus and several people had to stand by the railing and traffic had increased.

When we were driving around New Orleans, it seemed like the city was slowly becoming what it once was and my uncle told me that New Orleans was about 70% back to Pre-Katrina level of population.

I am glad that the demand to New Orleans is coming back, and hopefully the airport will be back to Pre-Katrina levels soon, or something close to it. New Orleans really is a great city. I'll have a TR up soon, hopefully.

Glad to hear that AirTran is back to their standard as well, think they will start any new routes to Florida? Any word on Go Direct Air, the airline that claims they want MSY as a hub? I really hope Frontier resumes service to MSY.

Also, any word from AC or TACA?

Just ATL for the time being.

Go Direct Air, imo, will never happen.

F9 would make a killing here right now, but they've yet to express any interest in returning.

I think AC will return before TA does, but I wouldn't expect either to come back anytime soon. That's the realist in me talking. TA was going to run eight flights from here this month, but they backed out because the airport wasn't willing to drastically lower the landing fees and rent for them.

While CO has the 757 MSY-IAH flights, the EWR flights in terms of equipment are def. not pre-katrina a/c. In march 2005, CO was flying 738s between the two cities and now they are down to 735s and E145s 3x a day! I can't imagine being on an RJ for that long.

That ERJ flight is being upgraded to a 735 in about two months, so MSY-EWR will be all mainline again at least.
