BA Livery Vote

Wed Feb 24, 1999 10:52 pm

How many people think that BA should revert back to their previous livery or change their current one? I for one do.

I agree, BA should go back to their previous livery, or change current one.

Yes I agree with you, I think they should go back to their old livery. However I don't think that will happen as they have invested a lot of money in this resyle. To make matters worse I here they are planning to change the interiors to equaly gaudy colours. I really liked the old scheme as it looked very regal and proffessional looking with the crest on the tail and the small red stripe and arrow along the fuselage. The new scheme looks like something from a third world country. If they wanted to change their scheme they should have the same one for all their aircraft, not all different ones. Chris

BA did have a very serious looking livery that reflected their identity. They are a very lean and mean corporation that flies to all continents, but yet they look as though they are some fly by night, Mickey Mouse operation. I for one think they should revert back to the image that displays British pride, and accomplisment. The only reason I follow BA anymore is for their extensive 747-400 fleet. Just my opinion.

I agree the previous BA livery looked very professional. I do like the new BA wave but the tail looks cheap. They should have kept the old one and just updated the wave. They could have kept the art idea by just painting the top of the tail or something

Keep it...

Thu Feb 25, 1999 12:22 am

I think they should keep the new livery. The old livery way dusty looking. Dark blue with cream top... Not very fresh. Made 747-400's look like they weren't washed since the roll-out of the first 747.

The new tail designs are colourful and classy. BA airplanes become pieces of flying art, not pieces of gloomy dark colours...

Finally somebody who dares to be original, compared to the usual 'white body-coloured tail'-layout everybody else has these days... (Lufhansa/Condor, Air France, Swissair, Virgin, South-African, Turkish, Air Canada, etc.)

Way to go BA!!

The only new BA livery I like is the one on Concorde. I vote for either extend the Concorde livery to the rest of the fleet, or revert back to the old one!

my only problem with the livery was that they had done the change to project a more "worldly" appearance and show themselves as the airline for the world. this logic in my opinion has turned me away from british airways as i feel they have let britain down and really no longer represent themselves as the britsh flag carrier. when you consider lufthansa has a larger world network than british airways and lufthansa displays themselves as proudly german... i respect this and lufthansa is my preferred european carrier.

i guess i am saying that i do not care for ba's strategy, therefore i do not care for the new livery. if they do change due to public pressure, they should adopt the new concorde colors for the entire fleet.

Current Livery ROX

The current, avangard style of BA planes is HOT. Now they look even more distinct than other airlines. I think they should keep the new livery, it's so nice and original... good break for the eyes after "cloned" planes of the rest of airlines.

Of course, "when there's too much of a good thing, it's no longer good" - i.e. if all airlines decide to "originalise" and paint their tails in abstract schemes, then traffic-controlles and aircraft spotter will yell.

BA Forever!!!

I agree with JZ

Thu Feb 25, 1999 2:45 am

I've got to agree with JZ the best looking colors are on the Concorde Fleet. Does anybody know how much more it is costing BA to keep all of those colors maintained as opposed to a standardised layout. I willing to bet it isn't cheep.

I think you will notice that the new livery is loved in the UK which most of there passenger come from. I think it is a really nice livery and should keep it. The old one was boring it blended in.

JZ's got an idea.

Thu Feb 25, 1999 4:16 am

I like JZ's idea. But, in my hearts of hearts BA will never be same. That old livery stood for proffesinalism, and great service.

I have posted this just yesterday but ok, I say it again.
The old livery was too old fashioned, too grey, so forget going back to the old colours.
This new tail art is changing BA personality for worst, it's loosing identity.
I would like to see the Union flag on all tails (like in Concorde).

Now, make this question again tomorrow...

I loved the old paint scheme, the pearl grey/dark blue, with the crest and red speed bird running down the side was truly classy. I about puked when i saw the new planes. However, i've gotten over it a bit, and am used to seeing these different tails coming in, but i must say its great to see one of 747 in old colors fly in. They've put a lot of money into this refit and making over of the BA brand. I guess they feel if they are going to be "The World's Favourite Airline" they should include different influences from around the globe

I think BA should have done this to be proven "global" they should have painted flags of all the countries the type of plane flies to.......so the 737 would have a british and french flag(just an example) etc. etc. what do you think?

Thats not a bad idea. Keep the old livery but with a differenet countries flag on the tale of the aircraft.

This may sound contradictory to my previous post, but some tails look kinda cool, but the all white fuselage with just a flying ribbon looks dull.

I really love the new BA tail art color scheme. Its always fun wondering what one will turn up for your flight. BA is to be congratulated for taking such a bold step and it does make a nice change from the white fuselage and tail logs of most airlines these days.

NO SENSE FOR ART ANYWAYS?

Thu Feb 25, 1999 4:53 pm

Hi everybody,

First of all I have to express that the introduction of the new color scheme was an excellent idea!

An airline for the world with images from around the world, why not?
We shouldn't forget these images are designs from artists, not from Mickey Mouse designers.
The old scheme was so boring, the new one is refreshing, it's a revolution, and it expresses a high sense of professionalism. What has outside look in common with inside service? Service has been increased, did you forget that?

I'm sure most of you has never read any closer information on the meaning of the different art ways, right? I did and you can believe me it's highly interesting.
Go to www.avn.demon.co.uk and read the explanations, maybe after that you will understand the message of the images in common.
Don't be that ignorant, art is something very important, and it's a pity that some people just call the art ways a "Third World" look. Highly ignorant...Some of the artways are from Third World countries, but they look as good as British or German images. Art is a field where differences between "lower standart" and "higher standart" just can't and shouldn't be made.

BA will go on with its new scheme and it's the only right decision.

Regards
Udo

UDO is right !!

I cannot agree more than with UDO. He really states my opinion.
What is wrong with art from the third world ? I just love the colours.

BA a British way of doing things.

Fri Feb 26, 1999 1:39 am

Yes, Udo BA is a global airline but they are from Britain. When you step aboard a BA aircraft you are looking for a high standard of service with a British touch. That is what made them a great airline. I am American and looked forward to the sterling silver and great British way of doing things.

What has changed but the livery?

Fri Feb 26, 1999 4:14 pm

Hi CX747,

I don't think they changed their British way of service. What they changed is their livery.

Not so Udo.

Sat Feb 27, 1999 6:16 am

Actually, they have changed their service. FAs have been told not to act so British and proper and to be more loosey goosey. So with the livery change a mood change also!
