New Airline In Argentina

Sun Dec 10, 2006 2:56 pm

Andes Lineas Aereas has taken delivered of a former Continental Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-82 (MSN 49127; LV-BEP) for start-up of six times-weekly service between Salta and Buenos Aires. The Province of Salta backed the project by assuring a minimum load factor until the new airline is estabilished and able to sell all seats without any financial assistance. The province alleges that with only Aerolineas Argentinas/Austral serving Salta city with around 30 flights per week (plus LAB to Bolivia), the tourism market needs more seats to occupy the various hotels and facilities that have opened in the last two years. Salta is 1600km to the north of Buenos Aires, so air travel is a public necessity. Andes Lineas Aereas intends to use the plane for charters outside of its scheduled flying commitments.

Err - let me just inform you that Andes started operations quite a few months ago! The big news is they are now flying (from last week) PMY-AEP, giving Puerto Madryn its only direct link with Buenos Aires. They will also operate some charters to Brazil during the (southern hemisphere) summer months.

It looks like Andes is performing pretty well.  Smile

Saludos,

If I'm not mistaken they will have another mad dog for their fleet, but I have no info yet on delivery.

I am very certain that that MD is being prepared in Coopesa here in Costa Rica and if it is currently being prepared, this would be N953PG (cn 49846/1581), ex. Allegro XA-TWM which was ferried in from ROW (Roswell) the 5th of December to SJO.

Currently, N960PG, another ex. Allegro MD-80, XA-TSW (cn 49904) was ferried to SJO via TAM, October 11th and I spotted it on a test flight with full Austral livery, yesterday morning it is still parked in Coopesa with now LV-BGV marked on its fuselage:

I have not seen the N953PG yet and it was a Brazilian friend who told me Coopesa was going to prepare a Maddog for Andes, would be very intersting to take photos of it!

Cheers,
Tomas.

Tomascubero, thanks for the photos, good to see an Aerolineas Argentinas aircraft, and to knoe about the growth of Andes. In the Argentian market, many airlines disappeared, such as LAPA and Dinar, great airlines, especially LAPA, whom was a bigger competitor for Aerolineas Argentinas. I hope to see friendly skies in Argentina, with LAN or TAM.

Regards.
