Sun Dec 10, 2006 4:23 pm

After many months of being closed for construction, ONT finally has 26L open for business. Landed on it coming home from OAK. BTW why were both runways closed in the first place??

Its was 26R/08L that was the main runway closed for long term work.. It reopened during this summer after a yearlong closure.

Here is a press release on the work;

Subsequently 26L/08R was closed for partial rebuild and regular maintenance late summer and reopened in October.

I commute out of ONT and 26L wasnt opened in October, I flew out a couple of days ago and it was still closed, it had to have been opened in the past day or two, no?

According to a calender I have it show as re-opened "Late October".

Who know maybe it closed again? I know an issues they had with one of the runways (dont recall which one) was center lights.

Also I know LAWA does close runways for rubber removal at pretty frequent intervals which take several hours at a time, so it very well be maybe you experienced those times also?

They just reopened the 26L on Thursday. On that day, they also had 26R closed for a short while to perform some maintenance on it.

It couldn't believe my eyes when they finally pulled the NOTAM from the system. I didn't believe it at first and called the tower to verify—especially since they also had the temporary NOTAM for 26R in place.
