Nice quality photos indeed. What a site. And does Qantas do with their 707? What were they both doing in MCO?

P.S. Cool to see US Airways in the back there Big grin

Very nice. Orlando's an odd place for them, though.

One of them is John Travoltas 707 (in QF colours) , the other (former QF 707 and ex-Saudi VIP aircraft) is going the Qantas Founders Outback Museum in Longreach to be permanently rested next to it's younger sister a Qantas 742.

I guess this is the best sight what could happen to an aviation enthusiast 2 classic aircraft in their classic livery joined together.....too bad the pictures don´t capture the sound of the engines and the smell of Jet A..........

Come by Geilenkirchen and you can see 3 707-320s on the ramp at the same time (not counting all our E-3s of course) and can smell the TF-33s Big grin But of course it is the NATO-OTAN "Airlines" livery  Wink

Great pics BTW crownvic

RE: 2 X 707 In MCO! Right Now!

Mon Dec 11, 2006 7:40 am

Update: Just got back from the Orlando International (MCO) and have lots of updates...Mr. Travolta flew in special from Greystone 17FL (Jumbolaire) his private airport 40 miles North of Orlando...Flightaware shows the flight as 12 minutes!!!! He came down after a trip to Seattle was scrubbed, due to weather issues..I talked extensively to the captain of Ship 29 and it was routed from Dublin to the Canary Islands because of paperwork. He said his two choices were the Canary Islands or Morocco! If he did not land at those two locations the aircraft would have been impounded for the usual political B.S. before its flight to Bermuda..Mr. Travoltas stay was short just a brief time for lunch and a photo opportunity. What a great sight to see the crew of ship 29 and N707JT with John himself in full airline pilot uniform all in the same shot... Sorry I was not allowed to take that photo! Soon after John shook hands with everyone and ran up the steps and took off.

What a thrill to see and hear those four engines fire up as he taxied out right passed us on the ramp. When she took off on 36 left for a straight out departure to the north, N707JT used very little runway. But, the smoke poured out and what a sight to see as she climbed away leaving that black smoke trail spinning in the wake tip vorticies! I haven't seen that sight in over 20 years!!! Off for another short 12 minute flight home!

The crew wanted to go to Disney ,but it looks like its sleep and then its off to LAX at 1000 tomorrow...Again what a sight to see those two beauties side by side.
It was only a month ago that the same plane N707JT was here alongside the Omega DC-10 Tanker!

VH-XCA was Prince Bandars Aircaft untill he bought his Airbus. John Travolta is very nice when he stops here. He always parks in front of our hangar. Since he cannot clear customs at his private field he has to stop here in MCO for that. He is always very friendly and stops to talk and shake hands. If you have not seen Pics of his house he has a terminal extending from his home with two jetbridges on it. One for N707JT and the other for his GIII.

Following up on the earlier note, do we know when the B707 is scheduled to depart MCO-LAX? Though the weather may not cooperate here in Houston tomorrow, it may be worthwhile looking up at the skies if it flies overhead.

AH the 707, nice plane, but cannot compare with the DC8 as far as ride and comfort. We old timers prefered the 8 as it was flying at it's best. Nothing against the 707, but having flown both over long distances, still take the 8 any day. I know there are some out there who have flown both and will dispute this. But having worked for Pan Am in those days, even the MX guys prefered the 8

If I am not wrong, these two are the very first and the very last B707-138 built. The first one was later converted to B standards. The last one was delivered as a -138B.

Actually it was not McD Versus B, it was Douglas versus B. I loved the 707 and thought it was a great plane, but the 8 was still my favourite. I am happy that some of the older aircraft are still around. JT was just here in Hamilton a couple of months ago and had a chance to see his airplane up close, brought back a lot of fond memories. Looking at the sky and seeing the 707 with smoke from the engines coming in to land, it was a beautiful sight

Miami X707 The reason we get more than your average amount of AN-124 movements here is that Westinghouse manufactures large generators locally and the only way to get them overseas by air is AN-124. The AN-225 was here in the spring as well...I've also talked to the crews on layovers and they like to choose MCO as a layover stop enroute to wherever or whenever its feasable because they favor the long runways, expansive aprons and taxiways and the local accommodations....

I think the An-225 has been here a few times this year already. The last reason seems the most logical to me, as I've only seen them loading generators once. Most of the time they just seem to be sitting there, on crew layovers like you said and for fuel stops. I wish they brought the IL-76 sometime  Smile

This particular one was coming from Cayenne, Guyana. Not sure if it also stopped in MCO on the way down there.

At what time the Quantas 707 VH-something left? The sun was on the other side anyways so early, horrible for photos unless for someone with ramp access.
