Which road would they seal? The old airport road or the freeway going from Beirut to Saida? Those are the two accesses to the airport.

Anyways, the last time there was a brief closure of the road to/from the airport, the Lebanese Army came and kicked the protestors out.

Thats not good news for MEA at all. They've been having alot of rough times this year due to the airport closures.
If the airport does close, where will they move operations to??

Ayeeko,
Nowhere as this will just be temp for just few hours or maximum a day or two

Also found it on the times
The huge rally signalled an escalation in the Opposition’s campaign, which is expected to include blocking main roads and strikes, possibly aiming to shut down the only airport in Lebanon as well as its seaports.

The only thing that will cause MEA to move operations is a) if a civil war starts in the country and the airport gets caught in the middle of a war zone or b) if Israel starts bombing the country again and bombs the airport.

Last month, some protestors came and blocked the road to the airport, but it was very brief. The Lebanese Army arrived at the scene and the protestors dispersed. No actual flight operations were affected.

If protestors come and block the road as they are threatening now, the Lebanese Army and Internal Security Forces (ISF) will quickly arrive at the scene to break up the blockade, so any blockage of the road should be short hopefully.

I do hope that nothing happens over there, the people deserve peace.

I am going to Beirut late January and early Feb next year, I hope the situation has calmed down over there, as I'm really looking forwards to seeing the city.

I will also be going to BEY in Jan or Feb, to do some training with MEA. It is a fabulous city and I really hope this does not escalate into anything worse.

I don't expect today's airport protests to be bloody but it will probably be very messy and costly to both MEA and the public!
Sad to see where Lebanon is going -and how the Lebanese are treating each other. But Lebanon will prevail!

Our friends and us are longing to get to Beirut this Xmas and we're all leaving in the coming weeks.

I truly hope the stability returns to the Land of the Cedars. Peace is needed, and with it economic prosperity which only can improve the lives of all Lebanese alike. Enough nonsense, the people is suffering, not the politicians.

I currently think we will not be using our tickets. Please make me wrong.
I want the European Union flag on airliners.net!
