QF Sale And Open Skies Opening Further?

Mon Dec 11, 2006 11:56 am

QF might be the subject of the takeover bid very soon - today or tomorrow, leading also to a significant loosening of the government restrictions on the operations by other airlines within Australian control, such as SQ - and EK?

Quote:
Australia's biggest airline is imminent...An announcement on the proposal is expected later today or tomorrow. The consortium behind the takeover also includes Onex, Pacific Private Equity and Allco Finance and is believed to have global expansion plans for Qantas and its budget airline subsidiary Jetstar.

If the deal was to go ahead, a Qantas sale could drive the Australian Government to loosen its open-skies policy. The expected announcement comes as Singapore Airlines ramps up its bid to gain access on the trans-Pacific route, with flights between Australia and the United States on its wish-list.

Given that DJ as well as AC want to fly United States Australia, I don't think the govt. right now will allow SQ to fly Australia United States..not right now anyway....
