United To Start Dayton To Denver

Tue Dec 12, 2006 12:34 pm

I searched everywhere and asked a few other people but found nothing, but I found United is starting DAY DEN service once daily with a CRJ-700. Schedule is below and appears to start April 24.

United Airlines
UA 6761 OP James Cox Dayton International (DAY), Dayton, Ohio, USA 15:35
Denver International (DEN), Denver, Colorado, USA 16:35
Non-stop
CR7 3h00min Daily

United Airlines
UA 6761 OP Denver International (DEN), Denver, Colorado, USA 10:21
James Cox Dayton International (DAY), Dayton, Ohio, USA 15:01
Non-stop
CR7 2h40min Daily

I don't understand why a CR7, at least it should be a 735 or a 319.

Looks almost like the same arrival/departure times for the new GRR-DEN flights, which is also served with the 700 operated by SkyWest.

Well, DL is starting SLC-PIT service using a CR9. They want to be sure that the route will work. If this route would turn out to be a flop, the losses would be minimal, as opposed to flying a less-than-half empty hypothetical 738

Same thing with UA here, they are experimenting here/playing it safe. Suppose the route DOES NOT do as well as they thought, then the route is a minimal loss with a CR7 as opposed to a 735 or A319. Of course, hypothetical, just considering that the route IS actually a flop, which it may or may not be. We have to wait and see how this route does for UA.

If it is a success, then maybe it will be upgraded to mainline, or remain a CR7 at the very least. If it IS a flop, then it will be gone, and UA will have lost a minimal amount considering it was only a CRJ doing such a route...

I think it is a great way to experiment with a new route. UA did the same thing with SFO AUS. It was a daily flight that fed UA extensive Asia hub at SFO. It id not take very long for the flight to be upgraded to a A-319.

This route is also operated by Shuttle America with the E-170. I do a DEN-GRR-DEN turn later this month.
Prepare doors for departure and cross-check.
