Aeroflot In Talks About 10 A330s

Wed Dec 13, 2006 8:16 pm

Quote:
MOSCOW (AFX) - Aeroflot has begun negotiations to buy 10 Airbus A330 planes, the daily Vedomosti reported, citing sources within the Russian state-controlled airline.

Aeroflot will 'study the question' of the purchase of 10 A330s, which could be delivered between 2008-2010, before the Airbus A350 comes on the market, according to a member of the Aeroflot board, on condition of anonymity.

A lot of the usual discussion. Bottomline: they have no real clue what to buy and when to buy - and how many.

OK, there may be some truth in that but this seems to look more likely than previous failed attempts. My guess is that this will happen.

Aeroflot may actually know what and when they need. The problem is that politicians not Aeroflot are decision makers.

SU does lots of talking, studying, negotiating, etc. Meantime, delivery positions everywhere are slipping away. Keep talking....

My (informed) bet is SU are going to sign for 10 A330s with a relatively early delivery date in a couple of weeks and are going to postpone any decision on the 787/A350 till the A350 is design frozen and the Russians know just what they will get to produce as 5% share.

So did they lose the 787 delivery slots that was extended till Dec 01? Good then, because those slots could be used as enticements for the airlines who can really decide and buy!!

Here's a different article covering the same story.

http://www.interfax.com/3/222334/news.aspx

"Management is looking into acquiring the A-330 on the secondary
market with delivery next year and new A-330 with delivery in 2008," the
source said.
The source said Aeroflot planned to lease five or seven aircraft
not more than eight years old and up to 10 new ones straight from the
factory. "Airbus is clearly the only accessible supplier of long-range
jets to Airbus and therefore the company is looking to maintain its
fleet until the A-350 becomes available," another source at the board of
directors said.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looks like the A330 is really taking advantage of being the only airliner currently available in its class.

If this order and the TG order do indeed happen, the A330 is off to a greatstart for 2007.

Not exactly un-expected
http://www.airliners.net/discussions...eesje+aeroflot+a350+a330#ID2989623

With both the 787 carrying certain levels of uncertainty and production slots being available starting 2012/2013, the A330 is a short term safe solution that simply cannot be ignored / denied for any potential 787/350 customer.

Airbus will likely delay the A332F cargo in order to not reduce the more important A330 passenger slots in the next 3 years.

Is it the Airlines that make profits, enough to put cash to one side to buy planes and the airlines themselfs who decide what types thay choose? and not the politions, seems to me that the politions stick their nose in too much, and not leave companies such as airlines to run their own companies.

Its about time this nanny state red tape was cut so people can get on with their life.

ok rant over.

Do you think Airbus should look at what to do with the A300 line other than extendingthe life of the A300F, maybe close the A306 programme and build the A332/332F on the line instead.

There isn't an A300 line as such - it's just a hanger where the planes are put together in a single place and I'm not sure that the A330F would actually fit in there as the A300 is a smaller plane.

Many of you are just so naive. Aeroflot does know what it wants to buy, believe me they do. The problem is the government and politics, which unfortunately controls this entire deal. Even though Aeroflot made the decision, it cannot be carried out because of some assholes in politics aren't giving them the green light.
This topic has been discussed for ages already. People have to stop blaming Aeroflot for something that is not under their control, and just wait and see what happens after the government gives them the "ok".

After that Russian state bank bought 5% of EADS I see SU buy only Airbus in the future. One German source suggested that they would take up to 17 A330s, seven of them leased. SU also said they would want to have up to 45 long-haul planes in the future. Given the political development in Russia, the Kremlin will decide what they buy.
