Same Airline, different Service On Different Routes

Thu Dec 14, 2006 12:33 am

I would like t know if there are airlines which discriminate when it comes to service according to the destination!
Back in 1994 I flew from LAX to SJO via GUA. All I can say was that the service was much much worse than the one we had between CDG and SFO and IAD to CDG.
In that flight there wre many modest guatemalans who were returning to their country. Thus I wiondered is the crew told themselves they have a less high standard than those goin to Europe or even Japan for example.
I'm sure some airlines serve differently a flight to singapore than one to Africa.
Do you think such a discrimination exists with the service on board?

By this i exclude short haul flights where service is rudmentary. I want to know for lets say flights over 4-5 hours where one expects to have a service that's already better than on short haul routes!

I read a couple of years ago about the way Chinese people are treated in general by JAL, not in a good way.
It was on the news, I'll try to find the article.

Back in the 1980s on JAL Americans were treated quite differently than Japanese. We were second class citizens compared to their national bretheren.

But, in recent years I've not noticed anything but great service for everyone on JAL.

Ah! Just the topic i was looking for.. i have some personal examples:

1. SQ, from DEL to SIN they fly their (comparatively) old 773's which are fine but are sad because they dont have their space beds if your flying J class. While from SIN to SFO they were space beds and the service was much much better too.

2. EK. From DEL to DXB they have a decent service, but from DXB to JNB they have crappy service and dont have their new seats in F. A second example is they dont sell duty free onboard flights to africa! Which is quite rediculous.

3. CX was the only opposite one.. the flight to DEL from HKG was much much nicer and more comfortable and service was better than the flight to or from SFO. Mainly because they fly the 333 to DEL and their 747's with HORRIBLE Y class seats to SFO.
I want every single airport and airplane in India to be on!
