Boeing & Air France Relationship Now Even Tighter

The tool will monitor Air France's 777 and 747 fleets. Air France has 42 777s in service and 13 to be delivered; it has 21 747-400s in service...

...The cooperative relationship between Boeing and Air France has grown significantly with Air France's AHM decision. Air France was a developmental partner for the original AHM release, and it is the first Europe-based AHM customer."


*AHM = Airplane Health Management

Air France and Boeing have really become close over the last few years...with this and a/c sales too.

Is this AHM anything to do with EASA Part M regulations?

you will find that Air NZ are also joining the AHM with their B772's and when they receive them B787's

Which is why I expect to see 787/GEnx combo for both AF and KLM when they eventually order

Interesting link thank you. Does lead me to ask a few questions though;

1: What are the major benefits of AHM compared to what AF currently use?
2: What impact on AFs Productivity will the AHM have?
3: How exactly does AHM work to improve their Productivity? "real-time"?
4: What impact has the introduction of the Class 3 EFP had and have AF reported any notable bottom line benefits since it's introduction? or, have they yet to commence installing them?

Very good questions that show your familiarity with aviation.
Yes, AF along with a few airlines already uses maintenace programs which allow the airplane to communicate with base engineering its systems parameters and/or failures . The transmission is either automatic,depending on the flight phase, a failure or an out-of-tolerance datum, or following a base query.(Sorry can't go into more details, obviously).
Now your questions :
-1/- A finer diagnosis of the systems and pointers toward the DDL
-2/-and 3/- It will allow a monitoring of a diverging parameter, giving an idea on a repair / replacement delay. (We know that this part will eventually fail, so we plan its replacement in 25 hours when the a/c comes back to base).
-4/- Too soon to tell.
So, you see, it's just an improvement of what already exists, not a revolution.

Pihero, appreciate the qualified response and I understand that in your role you may well be limited as to what you can say, so thank you. I note that AHM covers the 747 and 777 fleets.

That leads me to ponder whether Boeing will offer an EFB for the 747-8 series
