LH 747-8I As Long As The 747-8F?

Thu Dec 14, 2006 3:26 am

Hi all,

someone knows, if the 20 Boeing 747-8I LH bought will have the same fuselage-length than the B747-8F? (The original plans showed a shorter 747-8 passenger-version and a longer 747-8 cargo-version.)
I heard, Emirates would prefer the "shorter version" because of the longer range.

Thanks for your informations

In a word, yes. The pax version will now be the same length as the freighter version. Boeing has standardized the 748 fuselage as one length for both.
Ding! You are now free to keep supporting Frontier.

In a short answer, YES. I'd suggest reading up on the 'LH 748 order' threads last week, the subject is covered in details.

Really? Now, I didn't know that. It's gonna be pretty long then. Since the A346 is called the 'long Pencil', what will we call this?

Since the B747 has always been known as the Jumbo, the obvious nickname for the B747-8 is SuperJumbo.

Finally it's always about who's got the longest, right?  biggrin  Just wait for and see the A350-2000: You enter through the front door, walk through to the end, disembark through the rear door and you have arrived!  stretch

I believe the only difference is the length of the hump.

No, nothing beats the mighty An-225 ! But for the time being, it will be the longest passenger aircraft.
Exceptions confirm the rule.

Queen Victoria--Long live the Queen!

Queen Victoria's reign was the longest of any British monarch. Much like the 747--the Queen of the Skies (in length, and tenure)!

At 250 feet, 8 inches, the 747-8 will be the longest commercial airplane until if and when the A380-900 debuts. I don't refer to the 747-8 as a "superjumbo" because in my mind, a superjumbo should exceed 1 million lbs. MTOW and the 747-8 falls about 20,000 lbs. short of that. The 747-8 is a more reasonable lenth than either of Boeing's prior 747 stretch proposals; the last of which, the 747-X Stretch, was 264.5 feet long and the previous 747-600X an especially unwieldy 279 feet long. Anyone know exactly how long the A380-900 would be? I've had trouble finding actual specs on it because Airbus isn't committed to it, yet. I believe I'd read it would be some 30 feet longer than the -800, making it about 270 feet in length. Surely that model would have more ground maneuvering cameras to make getting around airports manageable. Such a giant on the tarmac would be a staggering sight!

Is the hump of the 747-8F going to be stretched as the passenger 747-8? Or is it going to have the short hump? Now why am I asking this?

Well when you log on to this link: http://www.newairplane.com, and you click on the "Launch 747-8 Site" link, it will take you to a web-page where there is a picture of an LH 747-8. When you are on that web-page, click at the bottom of the page where it says "WHO'S FLYING THE 747-8". Finally it'll take you to the web-page where a 747-8F has a stretch hump like the regular 747-8 next to it. So is this an option for the 747-8F?

The -8F will have the short hump. The larger upper deck adds unnecessary weight and requires a slightly lower ceiling on the main deck, reducing the height of containers that can be carried in the forward positions. Not sure why the -8F image on that page has a long hump...
