SEA Status - 12/15/2006

Sat Dec 16, 2006 12:33 am

As some may have heard, the Seattle-Tacoma-Everett area was hit with severe weather last night.

As of 7:30am PST on 12/15/2006 the airport is open and operating.

The C Concourse (used by AS) is closed due to broken windows opening it to the elements.

The A Concourse (US) and the South Terminal (NW, SK) have lost power.

10:00am PST update.

C Concourse is now open (they've boarded up the windows).

Many flights did not get out last night, so AS, BA, and SK (amongst others) are reporting heavy counter lines.

Which parts? Im assuming the old AA gates were affected.

Glad to see the airport surviving the storm. Isn't there another one on the way?

Anyone have a link to info on the storm/pictures of the damage.

I've been living in a cave lately.. Sounds like it was nasty.

TIA
I don't care what you think of my opinion. It's my opinion, so have a nice day :)

I don't have any pictures but I am staying at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel on the 8th floor, and we were rockin and a rolling last night..The building was swaying something fierce..

Also, there is construction going on next door and something must have fell off of the site because this AM there were three cars in the street that were crushed by something...

Yes, it was the worst windstorm since at least 1993. Over one million households are without power in western Washington (including me -- I'm posting from a laptop and a cell phone modem at the parents' house, which luckily has a generator), plus another 350,000+ in Portland. Trees and power lines are down everywhere. News footage has shown light planes at BFI with their wings ripped off. Here are some links.

The Jetway in S-11 blew out as AS247 (I believe it was that...if not, then AS205) was on the ground and being pulled in...quite the exciting night!

12:00N PST Update - Most power is back on at SEA, so baggage handling is improving. Still huge lines at HA, SK and BA.

I working HA's OGG-SEA flight today and we are going to have a sizeable delay due to the late arriving aircraft from SEA. Looks like 2 of HA's three aircraft are still on the ground in SEA....one of the 2 HNL flights has left, but all three are LATE!!

And who says HA doesn't have to deal with weather!!  Wink

C Concourse

Which parts? Im assuming the old AA gates were affected.

Sometime between 1am and 2am on the 15th I was out in the North Satellite pulling jetways back from planes when the Port of Seattle made an announcement for everyone to stay away from windows. After I got back to the main offices behind the ticket counter I heard that windows had blown in and part of the cieling had collapsed somewhere near C10. The C Concourse was closed for quite some time last night as the Port of Seattle went through and cleaned up. It made for the interesting times as flights 376, 810 and 16 were waiting out at the end of the C concourse at that time still hoping to depart with more than a few passengers sitting around in the waiting areas. Unfortunatly for all of the passengers on those flights they ended up cancelling after 2am.

It was pretty fun last night watching planes rock and bounce sitting on the ground. At one point before the C10 window came down I felt the window at N7 as it popped in and out with the wind. It was both fascinating and scary at the same time watching as planes bounced around in the wind.
