Kenya Airways Buys 3 More 787-8

Sun Dec 17, 2006 7:41 pm

brings them to a total of 9 787-8 on order. They seem to really grow a lot. I can't wait to start working on my Kenya Airways 772 model in 1/144 btw.

Seems to be a good Sunday for B, announcing five widebodies.

When are they planned for delivery? Will that help them to start the US East Coast operation? They have not ordered the additional B777, as originally planned....

I think a nonstop from NBO to the East Coast might be too far for the 787 because of the altitude at NBO - over 5000 ft.

Good news!

Have they decided on powerplants yet?

I put two cents on Rollers!

I think they're still evaluating that.

A tough one to call, I'd say. It surprised (and delighted!) me when they chose RR for their 777s - not least because they're in bed with KLM who are a huge GE fan. But KQ have GE on their 767s so this one could still go either way.

I understand that the Trent 800 has an advantage over the PW4000 and GE90 (on the 777-200ER) in hot'n'high conditions. I wonder if the same will be true of the Trent 1000.

LIGHTSABER!!!

Where is KQ thinking of expanding? More Asia or more Europe?

When will KQ become an associate member of SkyTeam? I keep reading at SkyTeam.com that several carriers are in the process of becoming associate members but don't know when that will formally happen.

On a related subject, do you think that if KQ expands significantly, they will be upgraded to full SkyTeam member?
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

Anything on the rumour that KQ may be planning a Nairobi-Manchester via Paris flight?

More frequencies and a route to the US, when the airport upgrade provides security as required by US authorities.
