Luzair L-1011 TriStar At AMS

Mon Dec 18, 2006 7:52 am

On the "competition", I've just seen a last November picture of the Luzair TriStar stored at AMS. The author of the photo says in the remarks that CS-TMR was going through a thorough check as the airline was preparing it for Hadj operations in December. New engines from a former DL TriStar would be used.

Is this TriStar really going to flying again ? Has it already left EHAM ?

Thanks very much for any new information.

Cheers.

Yes, yesterday she was standing at one of the hangars only missing one engine. Plane looked pretty clean and yes, I think it will fly soon! When I asked some people there, they said it would fly for PIA. Not only for hadj but also on scheduled flights. With the ban in mind I think it is a smart set to lease EU registered planes.
Be kind to animals! Next trip: ORF-ORD-NRT-IAH-ORF

So, they could not get any of the TZ L-1011s, when TZ begins flying those former NW DC-10-30s?

Last couple of weeks, nobody has worked on the Tristar. #3 engine still has to be fitted, but IIRC the engine brought in, was rejected by the Dutch FAA. Also there remains a lot to be "restored" in the cockpit.

I believe one of the reasons for TZ getting rid of the L1011's was expensive heavy checks (D checks) are going to be due soon.

I think you will find one TZ L-1011-500 is currently in check and two others had D-Checks accomplished last year.

If they are taking the engines from an DL L1011, then presumably has/will be broken soon.

There are too few complete Tristar's around.
