Free Airport Parking For Disabled Vets Etc...

Mon Dec 18, 2006 2:31 pm

I came across this paragraph on Austin's airport website:

Complimentary parking at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport parking lots and garage is provided only to motor vehicles displaying Disabled Veteran, Congressional Medal of Honor, Former Prisoner of War, Pearl Harbor Survivor, and Purple Heart Recipient license plates. Complimentary parking does not apply to the service of Valet Parking.

Is this normal for airports to do this? I think this is a very nice gesture, and didn't know AUS did that. Do you guys' respective airports have anything like this?

Cheers,

No.

Although the numbers in the group mentioned would be small, I could see the abuse in the system, especially with the disable veteran plates. Not many Pearl Harbor Surviors still around and the number of Medal of Honor winners are small, and quite frankly who would want a POW plate?

Like too many well-intentioned programs, this one sounds ripe for abuse to me, too.
