Air Transat's X-mas Hat On Logo. Can It Simpler?

Thu Dec 21, 2006 12:30 am

Lack of creativity is trumps with this Christmas hat on the Air Transat logo. Can it simpler. Simple image, bad performed, it doesn't 'jingles'. Well meant but this is totally brand destruction... Anyway Merry Christmas to you too Air Transat. Next year better?

I disagree that this is brand destruction. On the contrary, this is the exact kind of thing we expect from Air Transat. I think it's great. Since when did aviation have to be so serious? Maybe it's a Canadian thing. We're more prone to say "nice of them to do that".

They've been doing this for a couple of years now... I think it's a nice touch.
Not many other airlines have Christmas stickers. Only AY and OA IIRC but that's it.

Wow! You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch. Sometimes simple and tasteful is better than garish and loud.

I think Boeing 777/747 means that the Christmas hat drawing itself is bit rough and quick done. It's not sophisticated to my idea. With more care and love you can produce a very nice Christmas with shades of red, fine white hair etc. and even draping it a bit over the 'a' of 'Transat'. The leftside fuselage hat looks a bit better in matter of draping. To me personally I think it's nice idea they've done, they even have the rear of the hat with the bowl flowing with the wind stream (flying direction) however the drawing itself...yes, that's is very cheap and clumsy performed.

Of the pictures below to me the Finnair MD-11 has the nicest Christmas illustration (ofcourse because Finland is Santa Claus' homeland):

I don't think most people will see it up close like that. They just wanted something easy to apply and remove. It's not a permanent addition, so why spend a lot of effort on it?

Hey, I think it's a pretty damn cute idea! Doesn't detract from the logo at all, and the good spirit will likely draw the public's attention and mayb attract some business, too.

Hmm... am I the only one to go "huh?" at this statement? Simpler? Doesn't "jingles"?

IMO, I find nothing wrong with the xmas hat. I think it is a cute and subtle way of ushering in the holiday season.

I guess they kept it simple because it's on all their planes. Is that true of the Finnair one?

There is nothing wrong with the Christmas hat, I think it's nice to wish your passengers a Merry Christmas but as Owleye stated; the drawing itself is done 'a bit quick and rough'. Air Transat's hat looks too cheap imo: like a bad clipart picked from the internet. I cannot imagine a professional illustrator has made this especially for Air Transat. It's not the simplicity that bothers me but the poor illustration technic. Am I now more clear?

Is that Santa Claus' evil twin brother? I would think he lives someplace a lot hotter than the North Pole....  flamed

A nice small, inexpensive touch. Emphasis on the inexpensive part, they are mainly a charter based business. So why go blowing a crapload of money of 'professional illustrators' and 'design artists' and 'brand builders'?

With this logic I could argue that the Zip Santa Claus was also no good because they kept the bees pulling the sled! How dreadfully incorrect, it truly doesn't jingle either!

I disagree. Air Transat is an holiday line and I think that would appeal to the kids traveling on the flight

It's not brand destruction at all.

In fact, because the hat is drawn above the logo, the original branding is retained... the hat is just added to it. Customers can still recognise the identity being portrayed (Air Transat) without any obstruction.

And since TS caters to leisure passengers, their image can be geared towards conveying that image.

And from a cost/logistic standpoint, it's quite easy (cost/time) to add/remove the additional graphics.

Cheers,
EM

I like it too.. and since Santa Claus lives in Canada it's appropriate... he probably lent it to TS until the 24th. They just had a charter to Iqualit last week.
