Thu Dec 21, 2006 10:21 am

I apologize if this has been posted up. Anyways Air Canada continues to expand out west to Sunny Destinations and they are Cancun and Palms Spring CA.. Edmonton to Cancun and Calgary to Palm Springs CA.

Air Canada Inaugurates Daily Non-Stop Seasonal Flights from Calgary to Palm Springs, California

CALGARY, Dec. 16 /CNW Telbec/ - Air Canada today continued its
transborder U.S. expansion from western Canada with the inauguration of daily, non-stop flights to Palm Springs, California. Air Canada Jazz operates the
flights with next-generation, made-in-Canada Bombardier CRJ-705 aircraft,
featuring 10 Executive Class and 65 Economy seats. This seasonal service will
operate until April 10, 2007. "We are delighted to launch daily, non-stop flights from Calgary to Palm Springs and offer a choice of traveling to the warm California desert in style with our Executive Class service," said Daniel Shurz, Air Canada's vice president responsible for network planning at Air Canada and Jazz. "With the expansion of our North American fleet, we are deploying aircraft to grow our service to leisure destinations to meet travel demand." Air Canada flight AC 8598 departs Calgary at 09:05, arriving in Palm
Springs at 11:00. Air Canada flight AC 8599 departs Palm Springs at 11:35,
arriving in Calgary at 15:30. The schedule is timed for convenient connections
in Calgary to and from Edmonton, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Regina, Saskatoon
and Winnipeg.

Air Canada launches the only seasonal non-stop flights from Edmonton to Cancun

EDMONTON, Dec. 20 /CNW Telbec/ - The departure today of Air Canada flight AC 1894 marks the launch of the only non-stop, scheduled flights from
Alberta's capital city to Cancun, one of the most popular leisure destinations
in the Mexican Riviera. This seasonal service will operate every Wednesday
until April 11, 2007. "We are delighted to launch non-stop flights from Edmonton to Cancun, bringing the warmth of Mexico's sun, beaches and ocean six hours closer to Northern Alberta residents each week," said Daniel Shurz, Vice President Network Planning. "With the expansion of our fleet, we are deploying aircraft to grow our service to leisure destinations to meet travel demand." Air Canada flight AC 1894 departs Edmonton at 08:20 arriving in Cancun at 14:45. Air Canada flight AC 1895 departs Cancun at 16:00, arriving back into Edmonton at 21:05. All flights are operated onboard the 207-seat Boeing 767, offering a choice of Executive Class or Economy service. Air Canada customers may purchase Air Canada Vacations' all-inclusive holiday packages through travel agents in Canada.

From Edmonton, Air Canada and Jazz offer up to 51 daily flights to 18
destinations in North America, as well as the Caribbean and London Heathrow.

Where does this 767 come from? Last I checked, the only 767 flight in Edmonton was the LHR flight, and there aren't enough hours in the day for it to operate down to CUN once a week.

There are large numbers of retirees from Alberta and British Columbia in PSP. I'm sure AC will do very well on this route!

^ Oh, I have no doubt! It's just weird to see a direct flight like that!

I guess that's why I don't work in route planning.

If you pair up city A: cold, grey windy Canadian town with city B: balmy, warm safe southern US or Mexican town, then you have a winning route. A gross oversimplification, but it's pretty much the recipe the pros use.

checkmark  Not weird at all. In the past many Canadian charters also such as Canada 3000 have similary operated the route.

Demand certainly exist.

Oh it's simple. See, just see where WS flies, wait a year or two for the market to build, and then add your own flight. Big grin

You can also add SAN and PHX to that list during the winter months, especially if they have extended family in those areas.

Oh yes! Flightaware in and around KSLC fills up with these charters going between places like YYC/YEG and PVR, MZT or SJD with many off on a holiday to the sun!  cool
Many a DL Captain or 1st Officer has told be that when you see one of those charters at one of those three Mexican resort airports that "there will be some seriously partyin' Canucks on winter holiday!"  smirk
